Boox addresses the biggest complaint about its ultralight Android e-reader with a new front-lit version that maintains the device's signature thin profile. The company launched its Go 10.3 Gen II series this week, offering two models that upgrade from Android 12 to Android 15 while adding a dual-tone front light option many users requested.

The standard model costs $419.99, while the Lumi edition with illumination sells for $449.99.

Both versions measure just 4.6mm and 4.8mm thick respectively, weighing between 360g and 364g. They feature 10.3-inch E Ink displays with 300PPI resolution and support Boox's InkSense Plus stylus for note-taking across seven pen types and 24 built-in templates.

The front light addition directly responds to criticism of the first-generation model, which lacked illumination for low-light reading situations.

Unlike Amazon's Kindle ecosystem, these tablets run full Android 15 with access to the Google Play Store, allowing installation of third-party apps alongside native reading and writing functions.

Hardware improvements include an octa-core processor (reportedly a Snapdragon 690), 4GB RAM, and support for 26 file formats including PDF, EPUB, DOCX, and MOBI. Both models include dual-band Wi-Fi, built-in speakers for audiobooks, and a 3,700mAh battery that leverages e-ink display efficiency for multi-day use.

Boox says the Android 15 upgrade brings better multitasking support, improved privacy controls, and smoother UI performance compared to the previous generation's Android 12 implementation. The tablets are available now through Boox's store and Amazon.
