An unreleased Facebook Messenger app for Mac is circulating on the Internet, posted by Techcrunch. It seems the photo was taken from someone’s Mac whose working for Facebook and trying that app. The application looks like an official app from Facebook and not a third party app. It’s seen from the icon in the dock and the name of Messenger app on the menu bar, wherein this patented name can only be used by Facebook itself.
“While it’s tough to see in this grainy close up, the official client the Facebook employee was working on includes a navigation tab bar in the bottom left. It matches the tab bar options in official Messenger for iOS mobile app, including Recent, Groups, People, and Settings. Unofficial versions lack this tab bar.”
Techcrunch also added that the employee was logged into Facebook’s internal portals and VPN, adding weight to the legitimacy of the Messenger app. Regarding this, Facebook declined to comment by saying, “We don’t comment on rumor or speculation.”
The Messenger app has been available on Android platform, iOS, and Windows phone. They even have released Messenger app for Windows, it just, they have shut it down in March 2014.
From this rumor, it seems that Facebook wants to get back the messenger app platform market for a desktop. If you are a Mac user and hoping this app to be released in Mac, let us know your thought in the comment.
