Need to capture a tutorial on your Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7's expansive main screen? The built-in screen recorder handles it perfectly. It works on both the main foldable display and the cover screen, so you can record exactly what you see.
Open the Screen Recorder
Swipe down twice from the top of either screen to open the full Quick Settings panel. Look for the Screen recorder tile. If you don't see it, tap the + (or edit icon) to add it from the available tiles.
Tap the Screen recorder tile. A popup appears asking you to choose your audio preferences before recording begins.
Pick Your Audio Source
You get three options: No sound records only the screen with zero audio. Media sounds captures music, app effects, and game audio. Media sounds and mic records both internal audio and your voice through the microphone, great for narration or walkthroughs.
Select the one you need, then tap Start recording. A three-second countdown gives you time to navigate to whatever you want to capture.
Start Recording on Your Z Fold 7
Once recording begins, a floating toolbar appears on the screen you're using. It shows a timer, plus controls to pause, stop, or annotate. You can drag the toolbar to the edge if it's blocking anything.
If the toolbar gets in the way on the main display, you can fold the phone and continue recording on the cover screen, the toolbar follows you.
Annotate While You Record
Tap the pencil icon in the floating toolbar to draw directly on the screen while recording. Choose your pen color and thickness. This is perfect for tutorials where you need to circle a button or highlight text on the expansive 7.6‑inch display.
Stop and Save
Tap the stop button (square icon) on the floating toolbar, or swipe down and tap the screen recorder notification. The recording saves automatically to your Gallery.
Find and Edit Your Recording
Open the Gallery app and look for the Screen recordings album. Tap the video, then tap Edit (pencil icon). You can trim the start and end, adjust playback speed, overlay music, or apply filters. When you're happy, save the edited version.
Tweak the Screen Recorder Settings
Go to Settings > Advanced features > Screenshots and screen recordings. Here you can change the video quality (1080p, 720p, 480p), toggle the option to show taps and touches (useful for tutorials), and set the selfie camera size if you're recording with the front camera.
Know What Won't Record
DRM‑protected content from streaming apps like Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime will show a black screen. Banking and payment apps also block screen recording for security. Regular apps, games, browsers, and your own content work without restrictions.
If the screen recorder ever freezes or stops responding, press and hold Volume down and Side buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds to force restart the Z Fold 7. That clears any temporary glitch without losing your recent recordings.
