Need to reset your AT&T router without losing your Wi-Fi setup? A restart preserves your settings, while a factory reset erases your customizations. Start with the power restart below, then use the instructions for your model if you need a full reset.
Start with a restart that keeps your settings
Disconnect your gateway’s power cord. Remove the internal backup battery if your equipment has one. For a DSL connection, disconnect the telephone cord too. Wait 20 seconds.
Reconnect everything you disconnected. Allow up to 10 minutes for startup. This procedure applies to AT&T All-Fi Hubs, Wi-Fi gateways, and modems, and preserves your settings. Use this method when you want a restart without keeping track of reset-button timing.
Factory reset your AT&T gateway
Holding Reset for at least 10 seconds triggers a factory reset on AT&T’s standard Wi-Fi gateways, erasing customized settings. Record your customized network settings before proceeding. These residential instructions do not apply to the separate AT&T Internet Air for Business 5G Gateway.
Hold the gateway’s Reset button for at least 10 seconds. On a BGW320, hold the red Reset button for 10 seconds; on a BGW620 All-Fi Hub, hold its Reset button for 10 seconds.
Release the button. Let the gateway finish restarting. Check its status light against the model-specific indicators below.
Restart through Smart Home Manager
This restarts compatible equipment without reaching its buttons. Sign in to Smart Home Manager with the AT&T account associated with your internet service. The equipment-menu route supports BGW320, BGW210, NVG589, NVG599, Pace 5031NV, Pace 5168, Pace 5268AC, 2Wire 3600HGV, 3801HGV, and 3800HGV-B.
Select Network. Open Home Network Hardware. Choose Wi-Fi Gateway.
Select Restart. Select Restart again to confirm.
For the BGW320 and BGW620-700 app shortcut instead, tap Network on the Smart Home Manager app’s main screen. Tap Restart Wi-Fi. Tap Restart to confirm.
Reset an Internet Air All-Fi Hub
These instructions cover the residential Internet Air All-Fi Hub, including the CGW450. A brief button press restarts it; a 10-second hold performs a factory reset.
To restart, briefly press and release the Reset button. Allow up to five minutes for the hub to restart.
If you need a factory reset, record your customized network settings first. Hold the Reset button for 10 seconds. Release the button. Allow up to 10 minutes for the factory reset to finish.
Check the lights after the reset
On a BGW320, look for solid white to confirm the gateway is online. Flashing green on the WPS indicator is also used to indicate a factory reset in progress.
On a BGW620, wait for solid white, which indicates the hub is online. On gateways covered by AT&T’s general reset instructions, check for solid-green Broadband or Service indicators. For the BGW320 and BGW620, use the white-light checks above. Give your equipment its full startup time before trying another reset.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use the Reset button without erasing my settings?
Yes. On AT&T Wi-Fi gateways covered by its general reset instructions, press and release the Reset button before 10 seconds to restart without a factory reset. The separate business 5G gateway uses different timing.
Does the BGW620 Wi-Fi button restart the router?
No. The front Wi-Fi button turns wireless networking off or on. Wireless devices disconnect while Wi-Fi is off, but this does not reboot or factory reset the gateway.
Can I restart my AT&T router with its power button?
On equipment fitted with an applicable Power button, briefly press and release it. Allow up to five minutes for recovery. This interrupts internet-dependent phone and TV service. The procedure applies only to equipment with that button, not every BGW model.
Where can I get Smart Home Manager?
Get the companion app through AT&T’s official Smart Home Manager page. Sign in with the AT&T account associated with your internet service. Available features vary by equipment.
