Got someone on your Snapchat friends list you'd rather remove? You can remove them directly from Chat or their Friendship Profile on iPhone and Android. If you also want to stop private Snaps and Chats, use Block.

These removal controls are available in the current Snapchat mobile app without a Snapchat+ subscription. You do not need an additional download to use them.

Remove a friend from Chat

Start here for a quick removal. Swipe right to open the Chat screen, then press and hold the friend's name. Tap Manage Friendship, then tap Remove Friend.

The person loses access to your private Stories and Charms but can still see your public content. Whether they can still Chat or Snap you depends on your privacy settings.

If your goal is to stop private contact, removal alone may leave that contact possible. Use the blocking steps below when you want to prevent the person from sending private Snaps and Chats.

Use their Friendship Profile

Prefer opening their profile? The Friendship Profile has the same removal control. Swipe right to open the Chat screen, then tap the friend's profile icon.

Tap the three-dot menu at the top, select Manage Friendship, then tap Remove Friend. Removing someone through their profile has the same effects as removing them from Chat. Their access to public content remains, while private Stories and Charms become unavailable.

Block someone to stop private contact

Blocking stops private Snaps and Chats and removes the person from your Friends Feed; it doesn't hide your public content or take you out of shared Group Chats.

Swipe right to open the Chat screen, then press and hold the friend's name. Tap Manage Friendship, then tap Block.

You can also reach the blocking control from an open conversation with that friend. This route has the same blocking effects.

In the open Chat, tap their profile icon at the top, then tap the three-dot menu at the top of their profile. Tap Manage Friendship, then tap Block to prevent private Snaps and Chats from that person.

Find the friend through Snap Map

If the friend is accessible through Snap Map, you can open their profile there to reach the removal control. Open Snap Map, then locate the friend, using Search at the top if needed.

Press and hold the friend on the map to open their profile. Tap the three-dot menu at the top. Choose Manage Friendship, then tap Remove Friend.

This route combines Snapchat's documented way to open a profile from the map with its profile removal controls. Snapchat does not document it as a separate removal method.

If you cannot reach their profile through Snap Map, use the Chat removal steps above.

Remove several friends one at a time

Cleaning up a longer friends list? Snapchat doesn't let you remove multiple friends at once, so each person needs an individual removal.

Swipe right to open the Chat screen, then press and hold the first friend's name you want to remove. Tap Manage Friendship, then tap Remove Friend.

Repeat those steps for each additional friend. The Friendship Profile route above also works for individual removals.

Stick with Snapchat's own controls. Third-party bulk-removal tools aren't a supported alternative, and Snapchat prohibits unauthorized apps and plugins.

Keep conversation and contact cleanup separate

Clearing a conversation removes its entry from your Chat feed. To remove the friendship, use the individual removal controls in Chat or the person's Friendship Profile.

Clearing synced contacts removes uploaded address-book data. It does not remove your Snapchat friendships, and changing your phone's contact permissions does not ensure that previously uploaded contacts are deleted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does clearing a conversation remove that friend?

No. Clearing a conversation removes its entry from your Chat feed. It does not unfriend the person.

Do I need Snapchat+ to remove friends?

No. You can remove friends in the Snapchat mobile app on iPhone and Android without a Snapchat+ subscription.

Can I block someone from an open conversation?

Yes. In the open Chat, tap their profile icon at the top. Tap the three-dot menu. Tap Manage Friendship. Tap Block.

Will deleting synced contacts remove my Snapchat friends?

No. Clearing synced contacts removes uploaded address-book data, not Snapchat friendships. Turning off your phone's contact permission does not ensure that previously uploaded contacts are deleted.
