You want to make YouTube videos, but you don't want to appear on camera. Your screen, hands, photos, or illustrations can carry the video, with narration, text, or music adding the explanation. Choose the format that fits your subject, then follow the recording, editing, and upload steps below.
Keep the camera on what you are doing
Hands-only and point-of-view footage let you demonstrate something without showing your face. Frame your hands and the subject so your face stays outside the shot. This suits cooking, crafts, unboxing, and repairs; scenery and point-of-view footage also work for walking tours.
On an iPhone, open Camera. The same filming approach works with other cameras, but their controls differ. Select Video, then press the Record button or either volume button to begin filming.
Press the Record button or either volume button again to stop. For a time-lapse, select Time-lapse in Camera instead. Stabilize the phone with the activity or landscape in frame, then tap Record to start the time-lapse.
Tap Record again to stop it. The resulting footage can accompany narration or music during editing.
Record your screen for tutorials
Use the instructions for your device to capture the demonstration itself.
On Windows 11, press Windows+Shift+R to open Snipping Tool recording. Select the screen area, then choose Start. Finish with Stop, then Save the recording or select Edit in Clipchamp.
On a Mac, press Shift+Command+5. Choose Record Entire Screen or Record Selected Portion. Under Options, select a microphone if you want narration, then click Record. Stop with Command+Control+Esc.
On iPhone or iPad, open Control Center. Tap the gray Record button. After the countdown, leave Control Center and demonstrate the app. Tap the recording indicator, then tap Stop.
Find the video in Photos. Some apps prevent capture, and screen recording cannot run alongside screen mirroring.
On supported Android devices, swipe down twice. Tap Screen record. If the tile is missing, use Edit to add it. Choose the capture and audio options, then tap Start.
Stop through the Screen recorder notification. Google's path to the recording is Photos > Collections > On this device > Movies; manufacturer interfaces vary.
On a Chromebook, press Shift+Ctrl+Show windows. Select Screen record, then choose the entire screen, a region, or a window. In Settings, leave Front Camera off. Choose the audio source, then start capture.
Stop with Search+Shift+X. Files normally appear in Downloads.
Turn photos into a video without recording anything
Photos and illustrations can carry a slideshow, photo essay, or explainer. In Clipchamp's desktop browser editor or Windows app, import your pictures into the Media tab.
Arrange the pictures on the timeline in the order you want the explanation to unfold. For stock images, open content library > visuals > images. Drag your chosen images onto the timeline.
For written explanations, open the text tab. Drag a title onto the timeline. Select the title, then edit its wording in the property panel's text tab.
Drag the title's timeline handles to set how long it appears. For supporting stock footage, open content library > visuals and select the video category. Drag your chosen footage onto the timeline. Some stock assets require a qualifying paid plan.
Stock assets belong in your exported video and cannot be redistributed individually. If still images don't explain the subject clearly enough, try a screen recording or hands-only demonstration instead.
Remove your face from existing footage
A screen-and-camera recording includes your face because the webcam was captured alongside the screen.
For a Clipchamp recording with separate screen and camera clips, right-click the grouped timeline media. Choose ungroup, select the camera clip, and delete it, retaining the screen recording. This works only when the camera is a separate layer; it cannot remove a face embedded in a single flattened video.
For footage with your face near the edge, select the timeline clip in Clipchamp. Choose the crop control in the floating toolbar. Drag the crop handles to exclude your face. Choose done.
Review the whole clip to make sure movement never brings your face back into view. For an already uploaded video, open Content in desktop YouTube Studio. Select your video, then open Editor > Blur > Face blur.
Select the detected faces, then choose APPLY. Inspect the complete result.
Keep your original file. Saved editor changes cannot be undone through Revert to original. Choose SAVE when the result is ready.
Add your voice without filming yourself
Clipchamp's personal editor lets you record narration directly into your project.
- 1.Choose Record & create > Audio.
- 2.Allow microphone access and select the input you want to use.
- 3.Record your explanation of the footage or images.
- 4.Choose Save and edit to bring the recording into your project.
- 5.For optional background music or sound effects, open YouTube Studio's Audio library. Browse Music or Sound effects, preview a track, and select DOWNLOAD.
- 6.Import the downloaded track into your editor. Follow the attribution requirement shown for that track.
Build in original value before seeking monetization
Generic, mass-produced templates and slideshows with little added value fall outside YouTube's monetization policies.
Build your video around an original demonstration, explanation, analysis, or story. Stock footage and photos can support that material, but no editor setting or faceless format guarantees monetization.
Use audio you own or are authorized to use. Copyright permission and YouTube's reused-content assessment are separate, so permission to use someone else's material does not by itself establish monetization suitability.
Export and upload the finished video
Exporting turns your assembled visuals and audio into the video file YouTube needs.
For audio-only material, first combine the audio with an image in your editor. YouTube's ordinary upload tool does not accept an audio file as a video.
Choose export in Clipchamp to create your finished video. Sign in to desktop YouTube Studio.
Select CREATE > Upload videos. Select your exported video file. Complete the video's publishing information. For realistic AI-generated or meaningfully altered content that meets YouTube's disclosure requirements, open Attributes > AI use.
Select Yes for that content. Recording a video without showing your face does not, by itself, require this disclosure.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make faceless YouTube videos without using my own voice?
Yes. Generate narration in Clipchamp through Record & create > Text to speech. Set Language and Voice, enter your script, preview it, and save. You can also import prerecorded narration you own or are authorized to use through Media > Import media.
Can I use an animated character instead of appearing on camera?
Yes. In Adobe Express, select the plus icon > Quick actions > Animate characters. Choose a character, background, and dimensions, then record speech or upload audio through browse. Select Download to save the animation. No recording of your face is required.
How do I record gameplay without a face camera?
For a supported Windows game or application, press Windows+Alt+R to start and stop Xbox Game Bar recording. Windows+Alt+M toggles microphone recording, and the MP4 is saved under Videos > Captures. On PS5, press the controller's create button and select Start New Recording, then finish through create > Stop Recording.
Does keeping my face off-screen guarantee anonymity?
No. Faceless presentation does not itself guarantee anonymity. Removing your visible face is only one part of keeping your identity private.
