Your Snapchat Recap should appear in Memories, but the card can go missing, stall while loading, or disappear after the wrong tap. Start with the checks Snapchat supports, then move through the app, network, cache, update, and reinstall fixes that matter for Recap.
Recap lives in the Snapchat mobile app, so these steps focus on iPhone, iPad, Android, and Fire OS.
Start in Memories and check whether you qualify
Use this first when Snapchat Recap 2025 is missing entirely. If your account has a Recap, it appears in Memories.
Open Snapchat to the camera screen. Swipe up to open Memories. Look for the Recap card before changing settings or reinstalling the app.
If no card appears, your account has no available Recap in the app. Recaps depend on how many Memories you saved, last for a limited time, exclude Snaps saved to My Eyes Only, cannot be requested, and are removed permanently after you dismiss or hide them.
Let Recap finish loading on Wi-Fi
Open Snapchat and stay on the camera screen. Swipe up to Memories. Connect to Wi-Fi.
Keep Snapchat open on the Memories page while Recap loads. Leave the app in the foreground until the card or playback finishes loading.
If Recap appears but feels stuck, keep the app open on Memories while it loads, which is exactly what Snapchat tells you to do for a Recap that will not load.
Reopen Snapchat when Recap freezes
The most common quick-fix cause is a temporary app glitch that stops Recap or Memories from responding.
Completely close Snapchat from your recent apps screen. Open Snapchat again. Return to the camera screen.
Swipe up to Memories. Try the Recap again after the fresh launch.
Update the app from the official store
Snapchat's own Recap troubleshooting tells you to make sure the app is updated to the latest version, so clear that off the list before you dig deeper. Update Snapchat only through the official store for your device.
On iPhone or iPad, open the App Store, tap the My Account button or your photo, choose App Updates, then tap Update next to Snapchat. Tap Update All only when you want every pending app update installed.
On Android, open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, open Manage apps & device, tap See details under Updates available, then tap Update next to Snapchat. On Fire OS, open the Amazon Appstore, search for Snapchat, then tap Install or Update.
If updating does not fix it, clear Snapchat’s cache next because Recap depends on Memories loading correctly.
Clear Snapchat cache without deleting Memories
On iPhone, open Snapchat and go to My Account. Tap the gear icon to open Settings. Scroll to App & Privacy, then open My Privacy & Data.
Under Manage My Data, tap Clear Cache. Confirm with Clear.
On Android, go to My Account, tap the gear icon, open App & Privacy, then My Privacy & Data. Snapchat documents two Android layouts here, so use whichever one you see under Manage My Data: either tap Clear Data, choose Clear Cache, and confirm with Clear, or tap Clear Cache and confirm with Continue. Both routes clear the same cache.
Clearing cache helps troubleshoot Snapchat and does not delete Memories, Snaps, or Chats.
Restart your phone after cache cleanup
When Memories appear empty, grey, missing, or stuck, clear cache and then turn the device off completely for one minute. That restart gives Snapchat a cleaner launch before you return to Memories.
On iPhone X, iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 13, or later, press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears, drag the slider, wait 30 seconds, then hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.
On iPhone 6, iPhone 7, iPhone 8, or iPhone SE 2nd or 3rd generation, press and hold the side button until the power-off slider appears, drag the slider, wait 30 seconds, then hold the side button until the Apple logo appears. On iPhone SE 1st generation, iPhone 5, or earlier, use the top button for the same power-off slider process.
After the phone starts again, open Snapchat, go back to Memories, and try Recap with Wi-Fi connected.
Fix mobile data and Data Saver problems
Use this when Recap loads on Wi-Fi but stalls on mobile data, or when Memories content loads only after you tap it. Data Saver makes Snapchat content load only when tapped over mobile data.
Switch networks to rule out a connection problem. Try Wi-Fi, then try mobile data, then return to Wi-Fi for Recap because Snapchat recommends keeping the app open on Memories while connected to Wi-Fi.
To turn off Data Saver on iPhone, open Snapchat’s profile screen, tap the gear icon, go to App & Privacy, then My Privacy & Data, tap Data Saver, and toggle Data Saver off. On Android, go to the same Data Saver page and uncheck Data Saver.
Check Memories backup before reinstalling
The most common risky mistake is deleting Snapchat before confirming that Memories are fully backed up.
In Snapchat, go to My Account, tap the gear icon, scroll to Apps & Privacy, open My App, then tap Memories. Confirm that Backup Progress says Complete. If it says # Snaps Remaining or No Network Connection, connect to Wi-Fi or strong cellular service and wait.
Do not log out, switch devices, or uninstall Snapchat until backup is complete. Unbacked-up Memories cannot be recovered.
After backup is complete, iPhone users can touch and hold Snapchat, tap Remove App, choose Delete App, and confirm with Delete. Android users can open the Google Play Store, go to Manage apps & devices, select Snapchat, tap Uninstall, then reinstall Snapchat from the official store.
When Snapchat Recap still will not appear
Use these final options when the Recap card exists but still fails, or when Recap is unavailable and you need your saved Memories.
- 1.Open the Recap, tap the dots in the top corner, and choose Remove Snap if one Snap is the problem instead of hiding the whole Recap.
- 2.Report a bug in Snapchat through My Account, the gear icon, App & Privacy, Support & Safety, Bugs and Suggestions, then Report a Bug.
- 3.Use Snapchat’s web bug form when the app crashes or will not open.
- 4.Download your Memories from accounts.snapchat.com through My Data if Recap is unavailable and you still want your saved Memories.
- 5.For work, school, or child-managed devices, check whether app installs, deletes, updates, or Snapchat access are restricted before troubleshooting further.
Flashback Memories are separate from yearly Snapchat Recap. Use Memories for Recap, and use Flashback settings only when you want to control old daily memories.
