When SimpliSafe won't connect to WiFi, the problem usually comes down to the network type, the password, or a weak 2.4 GHz signal. Start with the standard connection path, then move to router settings and resets only when the simpler checks do not restore service.

These fixes cover the Gen 3 Base Station, the SimpliSafe Mobile App, the Keypad, and SimpliSafe cameras. Work through them in order so you do not reset devices before checking the settings that most often block setup.

Start with the app and basic WiFi setup

Install or update the SimpliSafe Mobile App before using app-based WiFi setup. The app requires Android 12 or later on Android devices and iOS 17.0 or later on iPhone, and Kindle Fire tablets are not compatible.

For a Gen 3 Base Station, open the SimpliSafe Mobile App, go to My System, Base Station Settings, and WiFi Network. Choose your WiFi network, enter the password, and tap Connect.

If you changed your router or network name, use the same app path and follow the prompts until you see Yay! Your Base Station is connected. Tap Done, then update the Base Station WiFi before reconnecting Outdoor Cameras or Smart Alarm Indoor Cameras.

Use the Keypad when the app will not finish

This method applies when app setup fails or when your monitoring plan does not support the app-based network backup path. The Keypad connects the Gen 3 Base Station directly to WiFi.

On the Keypad, open Menu, enter your 4-digit Master PIN, then open System Settings and Wi-Fi.

Select your network with the right arrow and enter the network password.

If the connection fails, re-enter the password when prompted. WiFi passwords are case-sensitive, so check capital letters, numbers, and symbols before trying again.

Make your router use a supported network

The most common cause is a router network that does not match SimpliSafe WiFi requirements.

Use a password-protected 2.4 GHz WiFi network. SimpliSafe Base Stations and cameras require 2.4 GHz, so do not try to put them on 5 GHz.

Keep both the WiFi name and password to 31 characters or fewer. For cameras, remove semicolons and backslashes from the network name and password.

Set router security to WPA2 or WPA2/WPA3 Mixed Mode. WPA3-only networks are not supported for setup.

Split merged 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands

Open your router manual, ISP app, or router admin page and separate the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands into different WiFi names.

Give the 2.4 GHz network a clear name that you can recognize during SimpliSafe setup.

On iPhone, open Settings, then Wi-Fi, select the 2.4 GHz network, enter the password, and tap Join.

On Android, open Settings, then Network & internet, then Internet, tap the 2.4 GHz network, enter the password, and confirm the connection prompt. Menu labels vary by manufacturer, so on some phones the WiFi list sits under Connections.

Run SimpliSafe WiFi setup again from the app or Keypad and choose the 2.4 GHz network.

If your router keeps combining the bands automatically, create a dedicated 2.4 GHz network for SimpliSafe.

Fix hidden networks and common error messages

If the Keypad says WiFi Network Not Found and your WiFi name is hidden, unhide the network in your router or ISP settings. Hidden networks are not supported for current SimpliSafe setup.

If the Keypad says WiFi Network Password Incorrect, re-enter the case-sensitive password and confirm that the WiFi name and password are each 31 characters or fewer. Change WPA-only security to WPA2 or WPA2/WPA3 Mixed Mode.

If the Base Station connects to WiFi but says it cannot reach SimpliSafe, check whether your other devices can access the internet. When other devices are offline too, contact your ISP because the issue is upstream internet connectivity.

Restart the router and improve signal strength

Unplug your router or modem from power for 30 to 60 seconds.

Plug it back in and wait for internet service to return.

Try SimpliSafe WiFi setup again after the router is fully back online.

Move the router into the open instead of leaving it inside a cabinet or furniture.

Place it closer to the Base Station or cameras when practical, with line of sight when possible.

Move computers, TVs, consoles, and other high-bandwidth devices to Ethernet or the 5 GHz network so SimpliSafe has more 2.4 GHz bandwidth.

In apartments or busy WiFi areas, change the router's 2.4 GHz channel to 1, 6, or 11.

A compatible WiFi extender can help in dead zones, but choose one that supports 2.4 GHz and can use a different network name for the extended network.

This fixes router-default settings that block SimpliSafe before the Base Station or camera can complete setup.

For Cox service using WPA3-only security, contact Cox or your ISP and ask them to temporarily switch the network to WPA2 for setup.

For an Xfinity gateway, open the Xfinity app, sign in, then go to Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Details, Edit Wi-Fi Settings, Security Mode, WPA2, and Save.

After SimpliSafe connects, you can change the Xfinity or Cox router back to WPA3.

For Starlink, open the Starlink app, go to Settings, Router, and Add Network.

Turn on Split 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks, give each network a different name, and tap Save.

On the SimpliSafe Keypad, open Menu, then System Settings, then WiFi, select the new 2.4 GHz network, and enter the WiFi password.

Reconnect or reset SimpliSafe cameras

For camera connection trouble, open the SimpliSafe Mobile App, go to My System, then Camera Settings, choose the camera, select Connection Check under Connection, and tap Start Connection Check. You can also use the Cameras tab, tap the gear icon, choose the camera, and run Connection Check.

If upload speed is poor, lower camera quality in My System, Camera Settings, the camera name, and Picture Quality or Video Quality. Use 720p or 480p, then test the feed again.

To change the WiFi on an Outdoor Camera or a Smart Alarm Indoor Camera, open My System, then Camera Settings, tap the camera, choose Wi-Fi network, and follow the prompts. Video Doorbell Pro and SimpliCam do not offer that setting, so move them to a new network by removing and reinstalling them. If any camera stays offline, remove it from Camera Settings with Remove Camera, then reinstall it from Add Device or Camera.

Camera resets depend on the model. SimpliCam uses the top pairing button for 20 seconds. For Video Doorbell Pro, take it off the faceplate with the included T5 Torx screwdriver, then hold the larger rear button for 30 seconds for a soft reset, or press and release the smaller rear button for a factory reset. Outdoor cameras use the rear pairing button for 30 seconds within 30 feet of the Base Station, and the Smart Alarm Wireless Indoor Camera uses its pinhole reset and setup button sequence.

Reset the Base Station after other fixes fail

Use a Base Station reset only after the app, Keypad, router settings, and signal fixes have not restored WiFi.

  1. 1.Unplug the Base Station power cable from the bottom and wait at least 60 seconds, or until the app Timeline shows Power Outage.
  2. 2.Remove the bottom screw with a Phillips screwdriver, take off the bottom cover, remove one battery, and wait 60 seconds.
  3. 3.Reinsert the battery, plug the Base Station back in, and wait for Power Restored in the Timeline.
  4. 4.Arm the system in HOME, then disarm it with OFF.
  5. 5.Run WiFi setup again from the SimpliSafe Mobile App or the Keypad.

The Original SimpliSafe Keychain Remote USB and Easy Setup Wizard are not current Gen 3 WiFi fixes because the old remote software is no longer operational.
