Your Nanit won’t connect to WiFi, and you’re stuck without the view you need. A missing network, failed pairing, and an unavailable livestream call for different fixes. Start with these quick connection checks, then tackle the symptom you’re seeing.

Start with the connection basics

Check Nanit’s services and restart your equipment before changing camera settings. Open Nanit’s System Status page and check the login, local livestream, and remote livestream services. An incident affecting them can look like a WiFi failure.

Connect your phone to the camera’s intended WiFi network and load a webpage. If it won’t load, troubleshoot your home internet connection or contact your internet provider.

Disconnect your router’s power for 30 seconds, reconnect it, and wait for its normal connection lights. If you use a separate modem or wireless repeaters, unplug them for 10 seconds, reconnect power, and test internet access again.

Detach the Nanit camera head from its stand for one minute. Reconnect it, wait for the night light to stop blinking, and retry the connection.

Bring the camera and router closer

Weak WiFi coverage leaves Nanit struggling to find or maintain its connection. Move the router or camera closer together. Nanit recommends keeping the router, or a WiFi repeater, on the same floor as the nursery and within 20 feet of the camera. The camera’s directional antenna and base shielding dampen signals from routers on a lower floor.

Reposition the router or camera to reduce physical obstructions. Neighboring networks and competing WiFi devices also interfere with discovery. Repeat the network search after changing the placement.

If the camera remains outside reliable coverage, confirm WiFi repeater compatibility with your router manufacturer. Then install a compatible repeater between the router and camera.

Give your phone access to the camera

Pairing stuck before you reach the network selection? Check your phone’s WiFi, Bluetooth, and local-access permissions.

Enable WiFi in your phone’s Settings. Enable Bluetooth, then join the intended WiFi network. Keep your phone near the camera during pairing.

On Android, open Settings > Apps > Nanit > Permissions > Nearby devices. Nanit specifically documents this permission for Android 17 local-network access. Enable access, then reopen Nanit.

On iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network. Enable Nanit if it appears in the list. If a local-network permission prompt appears instead, tap Allow.

Retry pairing with a phone or tablet that supports Bluetooth Low Energy. If pairing still fails on a device with Bluetooth Low Energy, quit Nanit. The app-closing instructions below cover iPhone and Android. Reopen Nanit to restart pairing.

Find your WiFi network during setup

Wait about one minute on Nanit’s setup network list to let discovery finish. Then scroll to the bottom for weaker networks.

For a hidden network, enter its name manually. Enter the network’s password, then enable This network is hidden. Tap Next.

Check that the network name entered during setup matches the network you want to use. Check that its password is correct. Match Security Type to the router’s security setting. Tap Next.

If the router needs a compatible security configuration, select WPA2-AES in its administration interface. Nanit recommends WPA2 and discourages WPA2-TKIP; your router manufacturer or internet provider supplies the exact menu instructions.

Tip: Your hidden network can stay hidden while you pair Nanit manually.

Pair Nanit with your network again

For an existing camera installation, reconnect through the app’s network pairing option.

  1. 1.Connect your phone to the intended WiFi network and keep Bluetooth enabled.
  2. 2.Open Nanit’s side menu, then select Baby’s settings > Network > Pair Nanit with your network. For the Advanced layout, open Settings, select your camera, and choose Advanced > (Re)pair your Nanit with your network.
  3. 3.When setup prompts you, press the camera’s rear pairing button. It is separate from the recessed reset button.
  4. 4.Once the night light flashes, select Confirm night light is flashing.
  5. 5.Select or enter your network, enter its password, choose the matching Security Type, and tap Next. Complete the remaining setup prompts.

Choose the right band and reduce buffering

Not every Nanit needs 2.4 GHz. Nanit recommends 5 GHz for Plus and Pro, and 2.4 GHz for the Original camera.

In camera settings, open Network > Dual Band Networks > Wi-Fi Band. Try the other band if the connection remains unreliable.

For a camera that connects but buffers or disconnects intermittently, open Settings > your baby’s name > Network. Set bandwidth usage to Low. This reduces image quality and applies to connected cameras; it won’t complete a failed initial pairing. If changing bands or lowering bandwidth doesn’t resolve the problem, try the app and firmware checks below.

Refresh a stalled app and check firmware

Use these checks when Nanit freezes or pairing repeatedly stalls. Firmware updates need a working camera connection, so leave those until the camera is online.

On an iPhone without a Home button, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause. On a Home-button iPhone, double-click the Home button instead. Swipe Nanit’s app preview upward to close it, then reopen Nanit.

On Android, open Settings > Apps > Nanit. Some phones use Apps & notifications, followed by See all apps or App info. Tap Force stop, then tap OK and reopen Nanit.

To update on iPhone or iPad, open App Store > your account photo > App Updates. Tap Update beside Nanit if an update is available.

On Android, open Google Play Store > your profile icon > Manage apps & device > Updates available > See details. Tap Update beside Nanit if an update is available.

Once the camera is connected, open Settings > your camera > Advanced. Check Network signal for signal strength.

To confirm which network the camera joined, open Settings > your camera > Network > Wi-Fi Network. Open Firmware version, then install an available firmware update. This won’t restore a completely offline camera.

Reset saved WiFi connections on Nanit Pro

A WiFi reset clears saved connections on Nanit Pro so you can pair it again. Keep the Pro camera powered and fully attached to its mount. Hold the recessed rear button to the left of the USB-C port for more than 10 seconds.

Wait for the blinking blue status light that confirms the reset. Then pair the camera again through Baby’s settings > Network > Pair Nanit with your network, or the Advanced pairing option described above.

Contact Nanit support if your Pro still won’t connect, its physical button is damaged or stuck, or your Plus or Original still won’t connect after the earlier checks. The reset procedure above applies only to Pro.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Nanit show remote view when I’m at home?

Check whether your phone and camera are on different WiFi networks. Open camera settings > Network > Wi-Fi Network, then connect your phone to the listed network. Local viewing also has limits: Pro supports four simultaneous local viewers and Plus supports two. If those slots are full, stop viewing on another local device, then reopen the stream on yours.

Can I connect a Nanit camera to hotel WiFi?

Yes. In the camera app, open Settings > Network Settings > Pair Nanit with your network > Connect to Wi-Fi. Select the network and security type. Complete any redirected login, then tap Done. If setup fails, ask hotel staff for a password-protected or hidden smart-device network. Open networks carry privacy risks.

Do these WiFi settings also apply to Sound + Light and Nanit Home?

These products have different requirements. Sound + Light uses its separate app and requires 2.4 GHz WiFi with at least WPA2 security and no captive portal. Nanit Home supports secured 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz networks, but does not support open networks or captive portals.

Why can one family member view Nanit while another cannot?

Check the affected person’s account restriction under camera settings > the team member > Access Type. A Viewer with Local WiFi-Only Access must connect their phone to the camera’s WiFi network to view it.
