Restart your phone

It is advisable to restart your phone every once in a while. A ton of background processes and apps may run, and cause the battery of your phone to drain faster. When you restart the phone, all of it will be closed. So, press the Power button and hold it, and then press Restart.

Brightness level

The level of brightness on your phone can also affect battery life. So, you can adjust the brightness level manually, or you can choose the Auto brightness option. To do so, open Settings from the Home screen and tap on Display & Brightness. There you can either move the Brightness slider left or right to adjust it, or you can enable the option Automatic brightness.

Update the apps

It is very important to update the apps. Every new version brings something fresh and it also improves the performance of the app and fixes the bugs. So, what you need is to open the Play Store, tap hamburger icon, and then tap My apps & games. Tap Update all.

Delete the apps you no longer use

Get rid of the apps you are not using. They may affect the overall performance of your phone and cause the battery to drain faster. Head over to the Home screen, tap and hold the icon of the app you wish to delete, and tap Uninstall.

Update the software

Here is another important thing. You should make sure that you have the latest software version on your device. To update the software:

  • Open Settings on your device
  • Scroll down and tap System
  • Now select Software update
  • Tap Check for updates

If a new version is available, just follow a few simple steps on the screen to download it and then install it. Your phone will reboot.

Turn of the services when not in use

We use mobile data, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth daily. But, we don’t need them all the time. So, when you don’t need these services, turned them on. If you are at home, connected to your Wi-Fi network, there is no need to keep mobile data turned on as well. It will affect the battery.

Notifications

You can disable notifications for certain apps, especially the ones that you are not using on a regular basis. To do so, go to Settings > Notifications. Tap on the app you want, and toggle “Allow notifications” switch to turn it off.

Make use of the Power saving mode

Power saving makes the battery last longer. However, it will reduce the performance of the phone by turning off some features. But, it can be really helpful at times when the battery is almost empty and you can’t charge it. Navigate to Settings > Battery. and choose the mode that suits you.

Factory reset

Maybe your phone needs a fresh start. So, you can go for a Factory reset. Backup your files first. We always point that out for those who are not sure what this option means. It will erase everything on your phone, including the apps and photos. What’s more, it will restore all the settings to factory defaults. So, once this is done, you will have to change the settings according to your needs all over again. Here is how to perform  a factory data reset:

  • Go to Settings from the Home screen
  • Tap System & updates
  • Tap Reset
  • Now tap Reset phone
  • Tap Reset phone to confirm.

Your phone will restart. Follow the screen guidance to set it up as a new phone.
