Your Chevy Equinox Bluetooth stops working when pairing fails, the saved connection goes stale, phone audio profiles are off, or the infotainment system grabs the wrong device. Start with the quick Bluetooth checks, then rebuild the pairing, fix call or media audio, and handle CarPlay, Android Auto, updates, or support from there. These steps use Chevrolet, Apple, and Google support information verified in August 2026.

Start with Bluetooth on both screens

Bluetooth has to be enabled on your phone and on the Equinox center display before pairing or auto-connect works.

On your phone, open Settings, tap Bluetooth, and turn Bluetooth on. Keep the Bluetooth screen open while you connect, because Chevrolet says the phone should be discoverable before pairing.

On the vehicle center display, open Settings, choose Bluetooth, and turn Bluetooth on.

If the Equinox still does not see your phone, keep the phone on the Bluetooth screen and pair from the vehicle instead.

Pair from the Equinox display

This fixes a phone that has never paired, a failed first-time setup, or a connection that was removed.

Put the vehicle in Park.

Tap the Phone icon on the center display.

Choose Add Phone, Pair Device, Connect Phone, or +, depending on the infotainment screen.

On your phone, open Settings, tap Bluetooth, and select your Chevrolet vehicle.

Confirm that the code matches on the phone and the center display.

Tap Pair, then accept or decline contacts and messages access.

Use the Bluetooth settings route

Open Settings on the center display.

Choose Bluetooth.

Tap Pair New Device.

Follow the on-screen instructions until your phone and the Equinox show the same pairing code.

Confirm the code on both devices and complete the pairing request.

For supported Equinox models with built-in voice recognition, use the steering-wheel route: with the vehicle on and in Park, short-press Push-to-Talk, wait for the tone, and say Pair Phone.

Stop the wrong phone from connecting

Use this when your Equinox connects to someone else’s phone, refuses your phone after another driver used the car, or jumps between saved devices. Chevrolet says most vehicles support one active Bluetooth connection at a time and default to the last paired device used, then move down the paired-device list.

Open the paired-device list on your phone and in the vehicle, then select the phone or vehicle connection you want to use.

To remove the old phone, open the vehicle Bluetooth Settings menu, select the old device name, choose Delete, and confirm that it is gone from paired devices.

Connect your phone again from the vehicle or from your phone’s Bluetooth screen.

Clear the saved connection and pair again

When Bluetooth used to work and now refuses to connect, rebuild the pairing from both sides.

  1. 1.On the vehicle, open the Bluetooth Settings menu, select your phone name, and choose Delete.
  2. 2.On iPhone, go to Settings > Bluetooth, find the vehicle name, and remove it. On Android, go to Settings > Connected devices > Saved devices, tap the settings icon next to the vehicle, then tap Forget and Forget device.
  3. 3.Turn the vehicle off, open and close the vehicle door, and wait two minutes.
  4. 4.Turn Bluetooth back on and keep the phone’s Bluetooth screen open.
  5. 5.Pair again from the Equinox Phone screen or Bluetooth settings.

Restart the phone and vehicle

This fixes dropped Bluetooth connections, a frozen connection state, or a phone that will not reconnect after working earlier.

Turn the vehicle off.

Turn the phone off.

Open the vehicle door after turning the vehicle off so the infotainment system fully resets.

Turn both devices back on.

Try the Bluetooth connection again from the phone or the center display.

Fix calls or music that will not play

When pairing works but calls do not, check Bluetooth calling on the phone. On Android, open Settings > Connected devices > Bluetooth or Saved devices, tap the gear next to the car name, and turn on Phone audio.

When calls work but music does not, use Settings > Connected devices > Bluetooth or Saved devices, tap the gear next to the car name, and turn on Media audio. Raise the volume on the phone and the vehicle.

On iPhone, reset the Bluetooth connection before retrying. Open Settings > Bluetooth, turn Bluetooth off, wait about five seconds, then turn Bluetooth back on.

If several iPhones have been connected to the Equinox, rename yours so it is easier to identify. Go to Settings > General > About > Name, type a new name, and connect again.

Fix CarPlay or Android Auto confusion

These steps apply to Equinox models equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 2025–2026 Equinox EV does not offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto and uses Google built-in instead, so on an Equinox EV stay with the Bluetooth steps above and the Google built-in reboot below.

The most common cause is that phone projection needs Bluetooth plus Wi-Fi, or the saved CarPlay or Android Auto car record is stale.

For wireless CarPlay, turn on iPhone Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, tap the CarPlay network, confirm Auto-Join is on, and select the CarPlay logo on the vehicle display when it does not open automatically.

To rebuild CarPlay, open iPhone Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your car, choose Forget This Car, and set up CarPlay again.

Make sure Siri and restrictions are not blocking CarPlay. Turn on Listen for “Hey Siri” in Settings > Siri & Search, then confirm CarPlay is enabled under Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps.

For wireless Android Auto, enable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on the phone, then open the vehicle Settings menu and enable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi there too.

To clear Android Auto’s car list, go to Settings > Connected devices > Connection preferences > Android Auto > Previously connected cars, open the top-right menu, choose Forget all cars, and reconnect.

For wired CarPlay or Android Auto, use the original phone USB cable or a high-quality compatible cable, skip hubs and extensions, and try a different USB port.

Update software and get help

Use this when Bluetooth still fails after re-pairing, restarting, and checking phone audio. Software updates cover the phone, the vehicle, or both.

On iPhone, update iOS from Settings > General > Software Update. On Android, check for system updates in the phone manufacturer’s Settings app.

On equipped Chevrolet vehicles, check infotainment updates from the center display using Settings > Updates > Updates and History, Settings > System > Vehicle Software, or Settings > Software Information > System Update.

On Chevrolet vehicles with Google built-in, reboot the infotainment system only while the vehicle is in Park. Press and hold the steering-wheel End Call button for about 20 seconds, keep holding through any service screen until the center display turns off, then wait about 5 to 10 seconds for the welcome screen.

Do not use older online advice such as fuse pulls, disconnecting the 12V battery, or older MyLink button combinations as the normal Equinox Bluetooth fix. Chevrolet’s current consumer paths are power-cycling, deleting and re-pairing, software updates, the Google built-in End Call reboot, and dealer or OnStar support.

If updates are unavailable, fail, or the Bluetooth problem continues, contact a servicing Chevrolet dealer for software diagnosis. You can also use the myChevrolet app through the Account Menu or your initials, then Help, to read the Owner’s Manual or call OnStar.

For work or school phones, ask the administrator to confirm that Bluetooth changes, Siri, and CarPlay are allowed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my Chevy Equinox Bluetooth connect but not play music?

On Android, the Media audio profile is off when calls work but music does not. Go to Settings > Connected devices > Bluetooth or Saved devices, tap the gear next to the car name, and turn on Media audio. Check phone and vehicle volume too.
