A zoomed-in iPhone screen makes icons enormous and leaves the controls you need out of reach. Start with a three-finger double-tap to undo accessibility magnification. If only text, a photo, or a webpage looks oversized, use the matching fix below.

Double-tap with three fingers first

Double-tap the screen with three fingers to unzoom it when accessibility Zoom is active. To reduce magnification instead, double-tap with three fingers, keeping them on the screen after the second tap. Drag those fingers to reduce the zoom level. Use three fingers for accessibility Zoom; pinching inward applies to enlarged content inside supported apps.

Turn off Zoom in Settings

This disables system-wide accessibility magnification. Open Settings, tap Accessibility, select Zoom, then turn off Zoom.

If the gesture is difficult, use another Zoom control

If the floating Zoom Controller is displayed, double-tap it to unzoom. A previously configured button shortcut gives you another route. With Zoom assigned to your Accessibility Shortcut, triple-click the side button on a Face ID iPhone or the Home button on other models.

Select Zoom if several accessibility features are assigned and a menu opens. To lower magnification without switching Zoom off, triple-tap the screen with three fingers to open the Zoom menu. Lower the Zoom Level slider. If these controls do not restore a usable screen, try disabling Zoom from a connected computer using the steps below.

Oversized text has separate settings

When text is enlarged rather than the whole screen, move the slider left under Settings > Appearance > Text Size on iOS 27. On iOS 26, use Settings > Display & Brightness > Text Size.

If icons, buttons and text are all larger than standard and the three-finger gesture changes nothing, check Display Zoom, the separate setting that magnifies the whole screen. Open Settings > Appearance > Display Zoom on iOS 27, or Settings > Display & Brightness > Display Zoom on iOS 26, switch it away from Larger Text, then tap Done to apply it.

For accessibility text enlargement, reduce the slider under Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Larger Text. Turn off Larger Accessibility Sizes if you do not need those additional text sizes.

For text enlarged in just one app, select that app under Settings > Accessibility > Per-App Settings. If it is absent, use Add App to select it. Adjust its text size in the app's entry.

When only a photo or webpage is enlarged

In-app zoom enlarges content inside a photo or webpage without magnifying the whole iPhone screen. Pinch inward on enlarged content in a supported app, such as Photos or Safari.

For a Safari webpage on iOS 27, open the Page Menu button on the left of the search field. Tap Page Zoom, then tap the small A to reduce enlargement until the indicator reads 100%.

In Chrome, open More, select Zoom text..., then tap Zoom out to reduce the webpage's size.

Use a computer when Settings is hard to reach

Connect your iPhone to your computer. On a Mac running macOS Catalina or later, open Finder, select your iPhone, and choose Configure Accessibility. Deselect Zoom, then click OK.

On Windows, open Apple Devices. Select your connected iPhone in the sidebar, open General, then choose Configure Accessibility under Options. Clear Zoom, then select OK. If you need Apple Devices, Apple's Windows app download page links to its Microsoft Store download.

Keep Zoom from switching on accidentally

If enlargement returns after an accidental triple-click, remove Zoom from the button shortcut. If you use Zoom regularly, limit its magnification instead.

Go to Settings > Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut, then deselect Zoom. Separately, turn off Zoom under Settings > Accessibility > Zoom to stop the current magnification. To keep Zoom enabled with less magnification available, lower the Maximum Zoom Level slider under Settings > Accessibility > Zoom.

Force restart only if the iPhone is unresponsive

A force restart is troubleshooting for an unresponsive interface, not a way to disable Zoom. These steps apply to an iPhone with Face ID and to the models covered by Apple's current iPhone guide, which starts at iPhone 11 and iPhone SE (2nd generation).

Quickly press and release the volume-up button, then quickly press and release the volume-down button. Hold the side button until the Apple logo appears, then release the side button.

Older models use a different combination. On an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, hold the side button and the volume-down button together until the Apple logo appears. On an iPhone 6s or earlier, hold the Home button and the side or top button together. If the screen remains magnified after restarting, double-tap it with three fingers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I perform the three-finger gesture with AssistiveTouch?

Yes. With AssistiveTouch enabled, open its menu. Choose Device > More > Gestures. Select three-finger input. Double-tap with one finger to perform the equivalent three-finger taps.

Why does an enlarged window appear while I type?

Hover Typing displays an enlarged typing window. Swipe on the window to hide it temporarily. To disable it, go to Settings > Accessibility > Hover Text > Hover Typing. Turn off Hover Typing.

What if only my Home Screen icons are too large?

On iOS 27, touch and hold the Home Screen background until the icons jiggle. Open Customize using the top-left customization button. Use the Large Apps button to switch to the smaller icon size. This changes icon size separately from accessibility Zoom.

Can my workplace help with Zoom on a managed iPhone?

Yes. Ask your device administrator to disable Zoom remotely on an eligible managed iPhone. For a phone locked to one app, ask the administrator to review the App Lock payload's Zoom setting and permitted accessibility shortcuts.
