A Kindle page turner can fail because the e-reader is frozen, the tap zone is wrong, Double tap is off, or a clip-on remote is not touching the screen correctly. Start with the fix that matches what is failing, then move to the software and app steps if the page still will not change.
Restart a frozen Kindle
This fixes a Kindle e-reader that will not respond, turn pages, or leave the current screen.
Press and hold the physical Power button.
Keep holding it until a power dialog appears or the screen goes blank.
Continue holding the same button for 40 seconds, then release it.
Wait for the Kindle to restart.
Open a book and test the page turn again.
Test regular touch page turns
First check whether the book still responds to normal touch controls. Open a book and tap the right side of the screen to move forward.
Tap the left side of the screen to go back. Swipe left or right across the page if tapping does not respond cleanly.
If normal taps and swipes work, try Double tap or reset the clip-on remote next.
Turn on Double tap page turning
Open All Settings on your Kindle.
Select Device Options.
Switch Double tap on.
Open a book and double tap the side or back of the Kindle to test page turning.
Double tap appears only on supported Kindle e-readers.
Reset a clip-on Kindle page turner
Clip-style Kindle page turners need the remote, receiver, and screen contact lined up before they can trigger a page turn.
- 1.Turn on the handheld remote.
- 2.Turn on the clip or screen sensor.
- 3.Attach the clip so the contact pad touches the Kindle screen near the page-turn tap zone.
- 4.Open a Kindle book and press the remote button.
- 5.If nothing happens, remove or thin the case so the clip can touch the screen reliably.
Move the clip to the correct side
The most common cause with clip-style page turners is placement on the wrong side of the screen.
Place the clip on the right side of the Kindle screen for the next page.
Move the clip to the left side of the screen for the previous page.
If the remote has gone idle, turn the remote and clip back on.
Re-pair them using the accessory manual, then test again in an open Kindle book.
Skip Bluetooth pairing on Kindle e-readers
Generic Bluetooth media remotes are not a supported direct page-turn fix for Kindle e-readers. Amazon documents Kindle e-reader Bluetooth for audio and VoiceView, not general Bluetooth page-turn remotes.
Use the accessory's RF receiver or capacitive clip mode on a Kindle e-reader. If your remote is Bluetooth-only, use it with the Kindle app on a phone or tablet when that app and operating system accept its key events.
If you meant VoiceView navigation, note that only Kindle e-readers released during or after 2016 support Bluetooth at all. On those models, open Quick Actions or the Menu icon, choose All Settings or Settings, then open Wi-Fi & Bluetooth or Wireless and turn on Bluetooth. Put the Bluetooth audio device in pairing mode.
On an 11th-generation or newer Kindle e-reader, press the Power button three times within two seconds to start VoiceView, then hold two fingers spaced apart on the screen to confirm the pairing when you hear audio.
On a Kindle e-reader older than 11th generation, press and hold the Power button for nine seconds, then press two fingers spaced apart on the screen for one second, and hold two fingers on the screen again when the audio starts.
Clear ghosting that looks like stuck pages
E Ink ghosting can make a page look stuck after the Kindle has accepted the turn. Page Refresh forces a fuller redraw and makes the next page clearer.
From Home, open Settings or All Settings. Select Home and Library, choose Reading Options, and turn Page Refresh on.
While reading, tap the top of the screen to show the reading toolbar, then return to the page to trigger a manual refresh.
If the page still looks frozen, restart the Kindle and install the latest Kindle software.
Update the Kindle or Kindle app
This fixes page-turn bugs caused by outdated Kindle software or an older Kindle app.
Connect the Kindle e-reader to Wi-Fi and leave it connected so software updates can download and install automatically.
If the update does not arrive over Wi-Fi, use a computer to download the official update file for your Kindle model from Amazon's Kindle software updates page.
Turn on the Kindle and connect it to the computer.
Transfer the update file to the Kindle drive.
Eject the Kindle from the computer. On a Kindle Scribe, use the Disconnect option shown on the Kindle screen instead of ejecting the drive.
On the Kindle home screen, tap the Menu icon.
Choose Settings.
Tap the Menu icon again.
Choose Update Your Kindle.
Tap OK.
Fix page turning in the Kindle app
The most common app-side cause is a stale app, damaged book download, or device input setting.
On Android, open your preferred Android app store, search for Kindle, select Kindle, then choose Install or Update.
On Fire Tablet, force close the app, restart the tablet, clear the app cache and data, then uninstall and reinstall the app when it is not preinstalled.
If only one Kindle mobile app book will not paginate correctly, press and hold the book cover, select the Menu icon, choose Remove Download, and download the book again from your Library.
For a stuck reading position across devices, open Manage Your Content and Devices, choose Preferences, select Sync Settings, and turn sync off or on. In the Kindle app, open More, choose Settings, and confirm whether Sync is off or on.
As a last resort on a Kindle e-reader, sync first, then open Device Options and use Factory Reset. This returns the Kindle to its original factory settings and removes all your personal data, downloaded content, and any content that has not been synced. It also deregisters the device from your Amazon account, so you have to register and set it up again afterward.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my Kindle page turner click but not turn the page?
For clip-style accessories, the clip usually is not touching the screen firmly enough or it is on the wrong side. Turn on both pieces, place the contact pad on the page-turn tap zone, and remove a thick case if it blocks contact.
Can I pair a Bluetooth remote directly to a Kindle e-reader?
No current Kindle e-reader menu supports generic Bluetooth media remotes as direct page-turn controls. Use an RF or capacitive clip-style page turner for Kindle e-readers.
Why does my Kindle look stuck even after I turn the page?
E Ink ghosting can leave a faint old page on the screen. Turn on Page Refresh in Reading Options, or tap the top of the screen while reading and return to the page to refresh it.
Do Kindle Oasis page-turn buttons still work?
Yes. Existing Kindle Oasis devices with physical page-turn buttons can still use those buttons, but Oasis-specific button settings do not apply to current Kindle models without physical page-turn buttons.
