When a Homewerks Bluetooth fan switch stops responding, the fault sits in pairing, power, Bluetooth mode, app control, or the switch hardware path. Start at the wall switch, then move through phone pairing, app access, and wiring checks in the order below.
These fixes cover Homewerks Bluetooth speaker fans and SmartVent or Alexa models, including the 7130-18-BT and 7148-01-AX where their controls differ.
Re-pair the Homewerks wall switch first
A Homewerks LED wall switch loses control when it is no longer paired with the fan grille. Press and hold the LIGHT button on the wall switch for several seconds until the main light flashes.
The flash means the grille and switch are paired again. Test the LIGHT, fan, and music controls from the wall switch before changing phone or app settings.
If the switch still does not control the fan, restart the fan from the wall switch next.
Restart the fan from the wall switch
Press and hold the wall-switch POWER button for several seconds until you hear a click.
Wait a few seconds with the fan off.
Press and hold the same POWER button again to turn the device back on.
On the Home NetWerks 7148-01-AX, press the wall-switch power, light, and fan on/off button for 3 seconds to turn power off.
Press the same button again for 3 seconds to turn power back on.
After the restart, test the fan from the wall switch before testing Bluetooth or app control.
Put the fan back into Bluetooth mode
This fixes a fan that has power but does not appear in your phone's Bluetooth list.
Press and hold the MUTE button on the LED wall switch for about 5 seconds.
Watch for the device to blink blue.
Open your phone's Bluetooth settings only after the blue blinking starts.
Turn Bluetooth off on any other phone or tablet that connected to the fan before, because the fan connects to one accessory at a time.
On Alexa SmartVent models, say Alexa, Bluetooth Mode.
Then say BATHROOM and select BATHROOM from your phone's Bluetooth device list.
Pair again from your phone settings
For iPhone, open Settings, tap Bluetooth, turn on Bluetooth, and tap the Homewerks speaker or fan name when it appears. For the 7148-01-AX, select BATHROOM unless you renamed the device.
For Android, swipe down from the top of the screen, touch and hold Bluetooth, tap Pair new device, and choose the Homewerks speaker or fan name. Follow the phone's on-screen pairing prompts.
For Bluetooth-only models such as the 7130-18-BT, turn on the correct wall switch first. In a two-switch installation, the switch connected to the LED light and speaker must be on before the speaker pairs.
If a SmartVent or Alexa model still does not appear, update the Homewerks app and allow Bluetooth access on your phone. Bluetooth-only fans such as the 7130-18-BT pair from phone Bluetooth settings and do not need the app.
Update the Homewerks app and allow Bluetooth
On Android, open Google Play and search for Homewerks.
Open Homewerks by homewerks.
Tap Install or Update.
On iPhone, open the App Store and search for Homewerks.
Open Homewerks by Homewerks, listed with Homewerks Worldwide LLC as the seller.
Tap Get or Update.
On iPhone, open Settings, tap Privacy & Security, tap Bluetooth, and turn on Bluetooth access for the Homewerks app.
The iPhone app requires iOS 13.0 or later, so check the system version before repeating setup.
Check app mode and smart assistant links
On SmartVent models that switch modes in the Homewerks app, open the Homewerks App, tap Choose a Device, and change the mode from Wi-Fi to Bluetooth. Keep checking until the device blinks blue.
For SmartVent and Alexa models, open the Homewerks app, browse to Amazon Alexa, sign in to the same Amazon Alexa account used in the Homewerks and Alexa apps, and follow the linking steps. When a Homewerks smart fan skill is already connected, relink the skill from the Homewerks app.
For Google Assistant control, open the Google Home app, tap Add, tap Link app or service, tap Works with Google, select the linked Homewerks service under Linked services, and tap Reconnect account.
Bluetooth-only Homewerks ventilation fans do not use Wi-Fi, Alexa, or Google Home. Pair those models through phone Bluetooth settings only.
Separate switches when multiple fans interfere
When one Homewerks switch controls the wrong fan, or two installed fans cross-control each other, pair each fan separately. Turn all fans off using the toggle switch before starting.
Go to one fan and turn it on and off 5 times. When the blue flashing light appears, press the LIGHT button. Pairing is complete when the blue light stops flashing and becomes solid blue.
Turn that paired fan off, then repeat the same process for the next fan. If the white light comes on, pairing was not successful.
To un-pair first, turn all fans off, turn one fan on and off 5 times, press the MUSIC button when the blue flashing light appears, and wait for the blue light to stop flashing.
If multiple SmartVent fans still answer to the same commands, rename duplicate devices in the Homewerks app and update the voice commands.
Inspect switch power and approved hardware
Use this section when the switch will not power up, the fan has power issues, or a non-Homewerks control was installed. Electrical checks belong with a qualified person or electrician where required.
Confirm the wiring against the wiring diagram and verify that power is on at the breaker. The included Homewerks wall switch must have a neutral wire.
Do not replace Homewerks LED or LCD switches with a normal switch, dimmer, solid-state timer, humidity switch, remote control, or unrelated smart switch. Homewerks says fans with LED or LCD switches only work with Homewerks switches.
A metal wall plate should not be used with the wall switch. If the switch has power but the fan does not respond, turn off power, disconnect the grille for 5 seconds, reconnect the grille, and test again.
Factory reset or contact Homewerks
The most common cause after pairing, mode, app, and power checks is a broken setup state.
On the Home NetWerks 7148-01-AX, press the fan button on the LED wall switch for 8 seconds to activate a factory reset.
This deletes all user settings, so use it only after pairing, Bluetooth mode, app, and power checks.
Set the fan up again in the app your fan is documented for. The current Homewerks FAQ sends 7148-01-AX owners whose fan has been on Wi-Fi to the Homewerks app, while the 7148-01-AX manual walks setup through the Home NetWerks Connect app, and that app still lists this model. Use whichever app already shows your fan, and call Homewerks support if neither does.
Connect the phone to a steady 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
Put the fan into setup mode from the LED wall switch.
Add the device in the app and install firmware when prompted without turning off power during the update.
For repeated pairing failure or switch un-pairing, contact Homewerks customer service at 877-319-3757, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CT. Use the contact form with the model number, issue photo, proof of purchase, subject, and message.
Do not use Tuya, Home Assistant, or on/off reset sequences as the consumer repair path. Use the Homewerks or Home NetWerks app, wall-switch pairing and reset controls, phone Bluetooth settings, supported Alexa or Google linking, and Homewerks support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my Homewerks Bluetooth fan connect to one phone but not another?
Homewerks fans can keep multiple pairing records, but the fan connects to one accessory at a time. Turn Bluetooth off on the previously connected phone or tablet, then put the fan back into pairing mode and pair the new phone.
What Bluetooth name should I look for when pairing?
For the Home NetWerks 7148-01-AX, choose BATHROOM unless the device was renamed. Other Homewerks Bluetooth speaker fans appear under the Homewerks speaker or fan name.
Can I control a Bluetooth-only Homewerks fan with Alexa or Google Home?
No. Bluetooth-only Homewerks ventilation fans use phone Bluetooth pairing and do not use Wi-Fi, Alexa, or Google Home. SmartVent and Alexa models use a different setup path.
Will a regular smart switch fix a Homewerks fan switch problem?
No. Homewerks LED and LCD switch models require Homewerks switches, and the 7148-01-AX manual warns against solid-state controls such as dimmers, remote controls, and certain timers.
