Your Fitbit is recording activity, but the numbers on your phone aren’t updating. Start with a manual sync, then work through the connection, permission, and restart fixes below. These steps use Google Health, which began replacing the Fitbit app on May 19, 2026.
Start with a manual sync
A manual sync requests an update so you can check whether your activity reaches the app.
If you still have the older Fitbit app, update it through Google’s Google Health (Fitbit) listing in the Google Play Store or App Store.
Bring your Fitbit close to your phone.
Open Google Health to trigger automatic syncing.
For a manual attempt, pull downward on the Today screen.
Alternatively, tap Connections > Sync.
Check the last-sync information beneath your device’s picture under Connections > your device. That tells you whether the attempt completed.
Refresh Bluetooth and your internet connection
Reset the phone’s Bluetooth connection, then retry with internet access restored.
- 1.On Android, open Settings > Connected devices > Connection preferences > Bluetooth. On iPhone, open Settings > Bluetooth. Android menu names vary by manufacturer.
- 2.Turn Bluetooth off.
- 3.Wait at least three seconds, then turn Bluetooth back on.
- 4.Restore your phone’s Wi-Fi or cellular internet connection if it is disconnected.
- 5.Open Google Health and pull down on Today with your Fitbit nearby.
When the problem is a service outage
A syncing outage needs a service recovery, not another change to your phone.
Check Device Sync / Pairing and Mobile App on the Google Health Status Dashboard.
Select an incident icon for details.
If an incident affects syncing, wait for service recovery before retrying. If there is no relevant incident, or syncing still fails after recovery, check the app permissions next.
Give the app permission to connect
These settings address blocked device access and restrictions on background syncing.
On iPhone, open Settings > Apps > Google Health.
Enable Bluetooth.
Turn on Background App Refresh.
Enable Cellular Data.
On Android 12 or later, allow device access through Settings > Apps > Health > Permissions > Nearby Devices > Allow. The app also appears as Google Health in Android settings. GPS location is unnecessary for syncing on Android 12 or later.
On Android 11, turn on your phone’s Location setting.
Grant Google Health location permission through its app permissions. Android 11 ties Bluetooth scanning to location services.
For Android background syncing, open Settings > Apps > Health > Mobile data & Wi-Fi. Some phones call this Mobile data usage.
Enable Background data.
Turn on Unrestricted mobile data usage.
If you use Data Saver, open Settings > Network & internet > Data Saver > Unrestricted mobile data.
Enable Health there.
Open Settings > Apps > Health > App battery usage.
Enable Allow background usage.
Select Unrestricted. Android manufacturers use different wording for these controls.
Tap any permission or connection warning at the top of Google Health.
Complete the warning’s prompts to resolve the remaining restriction.
Restart your phone and Fitbit
If Android Battery Saver is on, turn off Use Battery Saver under Settings > Battery > Battery Saver.
On Pixel 6 and later, hold the Power and Volume Up buttons to open the power menu. For other Android phones, use the manufacturer’s restart procedure.
On the Pixel power menu, tap Restart.
On an iPhone with Face ID, hold the side button and either volume button to display the power slider. On compatible Home-button models, hold the side button alone.
Drag the iPhone’s power slider.
Wait 30 seconds.
Hold the side button to turn the iPhone back on.
Connect your Fitbit to its correct charger.
If its screen is completely black, leave it charging from a wall outlet for one hour.
For Charge 5, Charge 6, Inspire 3, or Luxe, swipe down from the clock.
Choose Settings > Restart Device > Restart.
For an unresponsive Charge 5, Charge 6, or Luxe attached to its powered charger, press the charger button three times, one second apart.
Wait approximately ten seconds for the Fitbit logo.
For Inspire 2 or Inspire 3 attached to its charger, hold both tracker buttons for ten seconds, then release.
For Sense, Sense 2, Versa Lite, Versa 2, Versa 3, or Versa 4, hold the button for ten seconds until the Fitbit logo appears. On the original Versa, hold the left and bottom-right buttons together instead.
For Google Fitbit Air on its powered USB-C charger, hold the charger’s rear button for ten seconds until Air flashes white, then release.
Retry a manual sync by pulling down on Google Health’s Today screen.
Use the restart procedure for your exact model, since Fitbit button sequences are not interchangeable.
Clear competing connections and re-pair on iPhone
This removes competing phone connections and renews the Fitbit’s iPhone pairing.
Uninstall Google Health from nearby secondary phones signed into the same account.
Forget the Fitbit in those phones’ Bluetooth settings.
For an unused Fitbit on your account, select it under Google Health > Connections.
On Android, tap Disconnect device. On iPhone, use System > Disconnect > Disconnect.
Forget that unused wearable in your phone’s Bluetooth settings too.
For the Fitbit that still won’t sync with your iPhone, open Settings > Bluetooth.
Tap the information icon beside that Fitbit.
Tap Forget This Device.
Reopen Google Health. Pairing belongs inside the app, rather than on the phone’s Bluetooth discovery screen.
Accept Pair when prompted.
Approve any requested Allow prompt.
Software updates and the next recovery steps
Before reinstalling, check that your phone meets Google Health’s minimum of Android 11 or iOS 16.4; some wearables have stricter requirements. Update Android through Settings > System > Software updates, or iPhone through Settings > General > Software Update > Download and Install, when offered. Use a compatible phone if yours cannot meet the requirements.
Check for Fitbit firmware updates under Google Health > Connections > your device. Charge your Fitbit before tapping Update, if offered. Keep it nearby with the app running until the update finishes.
For a persistent app problem on compatible Android phones, uninstall through Google Play Store > profile icon > Manage apps & devices > Manage > Google Health > Uninstall. Reinstall Google’s Google Health (Fitbit) app from its store listing. Sign into the same personal Google Account associated with your data; Google Workspace accounts cannot be linked.
If syncing still fails, select Contact us at Google Health support. Provide your Fitbit model, phone operating system, app version, exact error message, and last successful sync. Avoid a routine factory reset of your Fitbit tracker as a sync fix because it risks erasing unsynced data.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Google Health show my activity, but Apple Health or another app does not?
Sharing data between apps is separate from wearable syncing. On Android, tap Sync under Google Health > Connections > Partner apps > Manage Health Connect. Review permissions under Manage data and access > Health; the source app needs write access and the destination needs read access. On iPhone, review permissions under Apple Health > Sharing > Apps > Google Health. Check Google Health > Connections > Apps and services > Apple Health for connection or new-data permission alerts.
Can I sync my Fitbit through a computer instead?
No. Fitbit discontinued computer syncing through Fitbit Connect on October 13, 2022, so reinstalling it or using a USB sync dongle is no longer a working workaround. The former Fitbit online dashboard is also unavailable. Use Google Health on a supported phone.
How do I sync my child’s Fitbit Ace?
For Ace, Ace 2, or Ace 3, switch to the child’s profile on the phone or tablet. Open Google Health to start automatic syncing. These instructions do not apply to Ace LTE.
Why isn’t my Aria Air weigh-in appearing?
Keep Google Health’s Today screen open on your nearby phone during weighing. Enable Bluetooth. Turn off unused competing Bluetooth devices. To restart the scale, remove its batteries for at least ten seconds, then reinstall them. Replace depleted batteries; Aria Air uses three AAA batteries.
