How to Block McAfee Pop-Ups and Notifications

McAfee pop-ups are frustrating because they do not all come from the same place. Some are real McAfee app notifications, some are Windows or macOS alerts, and many scary McAfee-branded warnings are website notifications or browser pop-ups using McAfee’s name. Start by shutting down the source you actually see, then remove the extra noise that keeps bringing the message back.

1. Sort the McAfee alert before changing settings

The fastest fix depends on the surface. A real McAfee desktop alert comes from the installed McAfee app. A browser warning that appears inside Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari usually comes from a website notification permission, pop-up, or redirect. A phone banner comes from the McAfee Security app, Chrome on Android, Safari on iPhone, or another recently installed Android app.

If the warning looks frightening, offers a renewal deal, claims your PC is infected, or appears even though you do not use McAfee, treat it as suspicious. Do not click inside it. Use the browser and system controls below instead.

2. Block fake McAfee alerts in your browser

For pop-ups, use Safari > Settings > Websites > Pop-up Windows, then choose Block or Block and Notify.

Use these browser controls when McAfee-branded warnings appear from a website, browser tab, or notification permission. On iPhone or iPad, block Safari pop-ups with Settings > Apps > Safari > Block Pop-ups. Apple also recommends turning on Fraudulent Website Warning.

3. Close scam pop-ups without touching them

Leave the pop-up alone when a page traps your browser or shows fake close buttons. Close the browser from the operating system instead.
