Missing notifications on your Honor Magic 7 Pro can make you feel out of the loop, especially when you're expecting important messages or alerts. MagicOS 9.0 has a lot of smart features, but sometimes those very features can be a bit too smart and block notifications you actually want to see. Let's get them working again.

Check the App's Notification Settings in MagicOS

This is the first place I'd look. Honor's MagicOS gives you very granular control over notifications, and sometimes an app's alerts get turned off by accident or by a system optimization. Open Settings and tap Notifications & status bar. Find the specific app that's not alerting you and tap on it.

Make sure "Allow notifications" is toggled on. Then, check the categories below. For an app like Gmail or WhatsApp, you might have "Silent notifications" enabled for a certain inbox, which means they arrive without a sound or pop-up.

Disable Power Saving and Ultra Power Saving Modes

The Magic 7 Pro's excellent battery life is partly thanks to aggressive power management. These modes can severely restrict background data and app activity to save power, which stops notifications from coming through. Swipe down from the top of your screen twice to open the full Quick Settings panel.

Look for the battery saver icon. If it's highlighted, tap it to turn it off. For a more thorough check, go to Settings > Battery and ensure both "Power saving mode" and "Ultra power saving mode" are disabled.

Manage Background App Startup and Activity

MagicOS manages which apps can run in the background. If an app is restricted, it can't check for new messages. Go to Settings > Apps. Select the problematic app, then tap Battery.

You'll see options like "Allow background activity" and "Manage automatically". Try setting it to "Allow background activity" to give it the most leeway. The "Manage automatically" setting lets the system decide, which sometimes leads to notifications being delayed.

Turn Off Do Not Disturb and Eye Comfort Mode Schedules

You might have a schedule set that you've forgotten about. The Do Not Disturb feature will silence all notifications except allowed exceptions. Pull down the notification shade and look for the Do Not Disturb icon (a circle with a line through it).

Long-press it to go to its settings and check for any active schedules. Also, while the Eye protection mode is great for reducing blue light, some of its automatic schedules or "Super dim" features can interfere with screen-based alerts. Check its settings under Display & brightness.

Force Stop and Relaunch the Problem App

Sometimes the app itself has just glitched. A quick refresh can clear its temporary state. Go to Settings > Apps, find the app, and tap Force stop. Then, just open the app normally again. This forces it to restart from scratch and re-establish its connection to notification servers.

Clear the App's Cache and Data

Corrupted cache files can break an app's ability to receive push notifications. Head back to Settings > Apps, select the app, and tap Storage & cache. Tap "Clear cache" first. This is safe and won't delete your login or personal data within the app.

If that doesn't work, you can try "Clear storage" or "Clear data". Be warned, this will log you out and reset the app to its default state, so make sure you know your login details beforehand.

Check for System and App Updates

An outdated app or system software can have bugs that break notifications. Honor frequently releases updates for MagicOS that include stability fixes. Go to Settings > System & updates > Software update and tap "Check for updates".

For the app itself, open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, and go to "Manage apps & device". See if there's an update available for the app in question. Installing the latest version often resolves these kinds of issues.

Reset the App's Notification Preferences

If the notification settings have become corrupted, you can reset them for all apps at once. This is a nuclear option for notification settings only. Go to Settings > Apps, tap the three-dot menu in the top right, and select Reset app preferences.

This will reset permissions, background restrictions, and notification settings for all apps. You'll need to re-allow notifications for your apps when they next ask, but it can clear out any deep-seated configuration errors.

Disable Any Third-Party Battery or Cleaner Apps

Apps from other developers that promise to boost battery life or clean memory often work by aggressively killing background processes. These are notorious for stopping notifications. Check your app drawer for any such apps (like Clean Master, DU Battery Saver, etc.) and either uninstall them or disable their "optimization" features within their own settings.

Perform a Network Settings Reset

This can help if the issue is related to how your phone maintains a connection for push notifications, especially if you're on mobile data. Go to Settings > System & updates > Reset. Tap Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth.

This will erase all saved Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth pairings, and mobile network settings. You'll have to reconnect to Wi-Fi and re-pair Bluetooth devices, but it can resolve persistent network-related notification delays.

Restart Your Honor Magic 7 Pro

It sounds simple, but a full restart clears the system's RAM and stops all processes, allowing them to start fresh. Just press and hold the power button until the power menu appears, then tap "Restart". If the phone is unresponsive, you can force a restart by holding the power button down for about 10 seconds until you feel it vibrate and see the Honor logo.
