Seeing that "Download" button on an MMS but having it fail on your Honor Magic 7 Pro is a common annoyance. It usually comes down to a setting in MagicOS, a network hiccup, or the app itself needing a refresh.

Let's get those photos and videos downloading again. I'd start with the quick restart and network check, as they solve the majority of these glitches.

Restart Your Honor Magic 7 Pro

The silicon-carbon battery and fast charging are great, but sometimes the software just needs a fresh start. Press and hold the power button on the side for about ten seconds until you feel a vibration and see the Honor logo.

This force restart clears temporary memory and can immediately fix a stuck MMS download.

Verify Your Mobile Data Connection

Unlike a standard text, an MMS requires an active mobile data connection to download, even if you're on Wi-Fi. Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the Quick Settings panel and make sure mobile data is turned on.

Also check your signal strength. If you're down to one bar, the file might be timing out. Try moving to a different location or temporarily disabling the eye protection mode, as it can sometimes affect screen readability of the signal icon, not the signal itself.

Check the MagicOS Auto-Download Setting

MagicOS has its own way of handling MMS. The auto-retrieve feature might be disabled. Open your default Messages app, tap the three-dot menu in the top right, and go to Settings.

Look for an option like Multimedia messages or Advanced. Inside, ensure Auto-retrieve MMS or Auto-download is toggled on. If you're traveling, also check for a separate Auto-retrieve when roaming setting.

Update Your Messaging App

Whether you use Honor's default app or something like Google Messages, an outdated version can cause download failures. Open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, and go to Manage apps & device.

Tap Updates available and see if your messaging app is listed. If it is, update it. For the system Messages app, updates often come through the general MagicOS software updates.

Clear the Messaging App's Cache

Corrupted temporary files can block downloads. Go to Settings > Apps. Find and tap on your Messages app. Select Storage & cache.

Tap Clear cache. This deletes temporary data without touching your actual messages. It's a safe first step. If the problem persists, you can try Clear storage or Clear data, but know this will erase your message history, so back up anything important first.

Review Your APN Settings

Incorrect Access Point Name (APN) settings are a classic cause of MMS issues. These settings tell your phone how to connect to your carrier's multimedia service. Go to Settings > Mobile network > Access Point Names.

You should see an APN selected for your carrier. If it looks blank or wrong, you'll need the correct details. The fastest way is to contact your carrier's support or visit their website for Honor Magic 7 Pro APN settings. You can also try tapping the three-dot menu and selecting Reset to default.

Reset Your Network Settings

This fixes deeper connection glitches by resetting Wi-Fi, mobile data, and Bluetooth settings to factory defaults. You'll have to reconnect to Wi-Fi networks afterward. Go to Settings > System & updates > Reset.

Tap Reset network settings. Enter your lock screen PIN or password if prompted, and confirm. Your phone will reboot. After it comes back on, test the MMS download again.

Check Your Phone's Storage

If your phone's internal storage is completely full, there's no space to save the incoming file. Go to Settings > Storage to see how much space is free.

If you're critically low, try offloading some photos or videos to cloud storage or deleting unused apps. The 5850mAh battery version (or 5270mAh in the EU) has the same storage chip, so capacity isn't linked to battery size.

Install the Latest MagicOS Update

Software bugs that affect MMS are often patched in system updates. Honor is consistently improving MagicOS. Go to Settings > System & updates > Software update.

Tap Check for updates. If an update is available, download and install it. Using the 100W wired charger will ensure the update installs quickly, but the 80W wireless charger works too if you have Honor's proprietary stand.

Try a Different Messaging App

This is a good test to see if the problem is with the app or the system. Download a popular alternative like Google Messages from the Play Store and set it as your default.

Ask a friend to send you a test MMS photo. If it downloads in the new app, the issue is likely with Honor's default messaging application. You can then stick with the new app or use its success as a reason to dig deeper into the original app's settings.
