Google has made a significant update to its Google Docs application on Android, introducing a paginated mode as the default viewing format. While the web version of Google Docs adopted a pageless format last year, the company has now decided to align the visual design across platforms by defaulting to a paginated mode on Android.

Upon opening a document in Google Docs on Android, users will now see "pages and page breaks" as part of the viewing experience. This change aims to create a more cohesive visual design between the web and mobile versions of Docs. However, it's important to note that the paginated mode does not apply if the document is set to pageless.

Google provided an example of the new viewing experience on a tablet, where the toolbar closely resembles the web editor. While this change is more suited for larger screens, the announcement did not specify any screen size qualifiers, suggesting that it applies to both phones and tablets.

Presently, the Android version of Google Docs already includes a prominent "Print layout" toggle in the overflow menu, allowing users to disable the dark theme.

The rollout of this new default paginated mode in Google Docs for Android has begun and will gradually become available to users. By adopting this update, Google aims to enhance the consistency and user experience across different devices while working on documents through its popular productivity application.
