What You're Getting

• Sensor: A 1/2.3-inch CCD sensor delivers 16 effective megapixels for still photography.
• Lens: The 24mm wide-angle lens pairs with 30x optical zoom, covering wider compositions and subjects farther away.
• Stabilization: An optical image stabilizer accompanies the lens, making stabilization part of the camera's feature set.
• Screen and processor: A 3-inch TFT color LCD offers a wide viewing angle, alongside Canon's DIGIC 4 image processor.
• Video: Recording is 720p HD with stereo sound, and a dedicated movie button gives video its own control.

The black SX500 IS brings those features together in a point-and-shoot model. Its lens range is the central reason to consider it, with the screen, still-image sensor and movie recording rounding out the package.
