The buds still show as connected, but the interruption kills the rhythm. The usual cause is Apple's Automatic Switching a feature designed to hop between your iPhone, Mac, and iPad but it can get overenthusiastic and cause micro-disconnects even when you're only using one device.

Start there. On iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Bluetooth, tap the blue "i" next to your Powerbeats Pro 2, then tap Connect to This iPhone/iPad and switch it from Automatically to When Last Connected to This Device. That stops the buds from polling nearby Apple devices and cuts out the steady stream of handshake traffic that triggers dropouts.

Turn Off Headphone Accommodations Over Bluetooth

Headphone Accommodations is an accessibility feature that applies EQ and tone boosts to audio. When it's enabled and set to Telephone mode, it forces the buds to stay in a phone-call codec profile that lowers audio quality and adds instability. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Audio/Visual > Headphone Accommodations and toggle it off. If you need it on, set it to Balanced Tone instead of Telephone that's the least disruptive option for music streaming.

Reset the Powerbeats Pro 2

If software settings haven't helped, a full reset clears any internal pairing corruption that might be causing random disconnects. Place both earbuds in the case, then press and hold the system button on the inside of the case (the small button near the hinge) for about 15 seconds. Release when the front LED flashes red and white. That wipes all paired device records and restores factory firmware defaults.

After the reset, take both buds out of the case at the same time and put them in your ears. They'll go into pairing mode automatically. If you're sitting near a running microwave or have an old router that only broadcasts on 2.4 GHz, the airwaves get congested and your buds will disconnect or skip. Walk into a different room away from electronics and test the connection. If it stabilizes, the fix is either switching your router to 5 GHz (if it supports it) or moving farther from the interference source during workouts.

For gym or outdoor use, this is rarely an issue. At home, it's worth a quick test before diving into resets and pairings.

Adjust the Ear Hook Fit

Loose ear hooks can cause intermittent contact with your ear's skin sensors (the proximity sensor that detects when you're wearing them). If the sensor loses contact, the buds think you've taken them off and pause the audio or switch to another device.
