Missing notifications on your ASUS ROG Phone 9 can be a real pain, especially when you're waiting for a game invite or an important message. The phone's powerful gaming features sometimes interact with Android's notification system in unexpected ways. Let's get those alerts showing up again.

Check Your Gaming Modes First

This is the most common culprit on the ROG Phone 9. The gaming optimization features are fantastic for performance, but they can be a bit overzealous with notifications. Open the Armoury Crate app and look at your current profile.

Make sure you're not in X Mode or a custom game profile that has "Block Notifications" enabled. I'd switch to a Dynamic or Balanced profile first to see if your alerts come back. You can also long-press the AirTrigger button to temporarily toggle Game Mode off.

Restart Your Phone

It sounds too simple, but a force restart clears out a lot of temporary glitches. Press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds until you feel a vibration and see the ROG logo. This is different from a normal restart and often fixes stuck system processes, including the notification service.

Review App-Specific Notification Settings

Android 15 and ASUS's software give you very granular control. Go to Settings > Apps > [App Name] > Notifications. Ensure every category you care about is toggled on.

Pay special attention to any setting labeled "Silent" or "Minimize." Also, check if the app is set as a "Sleeping app" under Battery settings, as this will severely restrict its background activity and notifications.

Disable Adaptive Notifications

ASUS includes features that try to smartly manage alerts. Go to Settings > Apps > Notification management. Look for options like "Adaptive notifications" or "Notification log" and try disabling them temporarily.

These learning systems can sometimes incorrectly decide you don't want to see certain alerts. Turning them off resets the logic.

Clear the Cache for Key System Apps

Corrupted temporary data in system services can break notifications. Go to Settings > Apps > See all apps. Tap the three-dot menu and select Show system.

Find and select each of these, then tap Storage & cache > Clear cache: Android System Intelligence, Notification Service, and Armoury Crate. This doesn't delete any personal data.

Check Background Data and Battery Restrictions

For an app to notify you, it needs to run in the background. Go to Settings > Apps > [App Name] > Mobile data & Wi-Fi. Ensure "Background data" is allowed.

Then, go to Battery > Background power saving and make sure the problematic app isn't listed there. The ROG Phone's aggressive battery management for gaming can sometimes affect non-game apps.

Verify Do Not Disturb and Gaming Schedules

Swipe down twice from the top of your screen to open the full Quick Settings panel. Look for the Do Not Disturb icon and make sure it's off. Tap and hold on it to enter its settings.

Check if any schedules are active, like a "Gaming" schedule tied to Armoury Crate. Also, look at "Allowed conversations" to ensure your messaging apps aren't being accidentally silenced.

Update Your Software and Apps

Go to Settings > System > System update to check for the latest Android security patch or ASUS firmware. Notification bugs are common fixes in updates.

Also, open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, and go to Manage apps & device > Updates available. Update all apps, especially the ones you're not receiving notifications from.

Reset App Preferences

This resets all your app permissions, notification settings, and background restrictions to default without deleting any app data. It's a good broad fix.

Go to Settings > System > Reset options > Reset app preferences. Tap reset. You'll need to re-allow permissions for apps when you use them next, but it often clears up conflicting settings.

Check for Conflicts with the AniMe Vision Display

The customizable matrix LED display on the back can show notifications. If it's malfunctioning or set to a custom mode, it might interfere. Open the AniMe Vision settings from your app drawer or Armoury Crate.

Try switching to a default preset or temporarily disabling the feature entirely to see if your standard lock screen and status bar notifications return.

Review Notification Channels After an Android Update

If this issue started after updating to Android 15, some notification channels might have been reset. Go into the notification settings for each affected app and expand all categories.

You may find that "Importance" has been set to "Low" or "Silent" by default. Change it back to "High" or "Urgent" to make sure alerts make sound and appear on the lock screen.
