Xiaomi's updated SU7 electric sedan appears in spy photographs as the vehicle reaches Chinese dealerships. The images capture the model in Capri Blue, a new more saturated color option compared to the previous Gulf Blue, with camouflage covering the panoramic roof that hints at design revisions.
The refreshed sedan starts at 229,900 yuan (US$32,920), a 6.5% increase over the original version that debuted in March 2024. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun positioned the higher-priced update as demonstrating improved performance to maintain sales momentum against Tesla and other competitors.
Chinese buyers placed over 100,000 refundable orders within two weeks of the refresh announcement. The vehicle now travels to showrooms in additional colors including rose gold, according to local sources.
Real-world durability data emerged alongside the refresh. One SU7 owner covered 265,000 kilometers in 18 months while retaining 94.5% battery capacity.
Mr. Feng, who drives approximately 600 kilometers daily, reported saving more than 100,000 yuan in fuel expenses compared to conventional vehicles.
"Xiaomi staff told me the results, and I was genuinely shocked," Feng said. "I had assumed it would be down to 90% at best."
The update follows a challenging period for Xiaomi's electric vehicle division. Several high-speed crashes in 2025, some involving the driver-assistance system, prompted a recall of approximately 116,000 SU7 units to address software issues.
The recall affected roughly 30% of delivered vehicles and contributed to stock price volatility.
Xiaomi's first-generation SU7 has concluded production, making way for the refreshed model now appearing at dealerships. The company entered China's competitive electric vehicle market in 2024 and has positioned itself as a direct challenger to Tesla in the premium sedan segment amid ongoing speculation about potential international partnerships.
The updated SU7 offers significant upgrades including increased power (320 hp for Standard/Pro models, up from 299 hp; 690 hp for Max model, up from 673 hp), enhanced safety features (9 airbags instead of 7, LiDAR standard across all models, 700 TOPS computing power for ADAS), and extended driving range (up to 902 km CLTC for Pro model, 720 km for Standard, and 835 km for Max).
Deliveries are expected to commence shortly, though Xiaomi has not specified exact timing.
