Embark Studios CEO Patrick Söderlund confirmed multiple Hollywood companies have approached the studio about adapting Arc Raiders into film or television projects. The extraction shooter's commercial success, including reportedly selling 12 million copies since its October 2025 launch, has attracted entertainment industry attention according to Söderlund's comments to GamesBeat.
"I can't tell you how many companies have reached out wanting to make a TV series and movie out of this IP," Söderlund said. He expressed openness to adaptation but emphasized "it needs to be done in the right way." No formal development has begun despite the interest from production companies.
Arc Raiders reportedly generated over $350 million in revenue according to GameSpot, cementing its position as one of 2025's breakout hits. The game reached 700,000 concurrent players across platforms and sold 4 million copies within two weeks of release. IGN awarded the title a 9/10 review, praising its "polished gunplay and irresistible grind."
The game's cultural impact extends beyond sales metrics. A Reddit user reported their neighbor kicked in a door after hearing cries for help during gameplay, mistaking the in-game distress for real emergencies. Arc Raiders also became Steam's top-selling title during the 2025 holiday season according to Eurogamer.
Söderlund's comments arrive during a surge of video game adaptations, with over 50 projects currently in development across film and television. Recent successful adaptations include The Last of Us, Fallout, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, demonstrating Hollywood's increased interest in gaming intellectual property.
Arc Raiders launched between Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 in October 2025, winning Steam's Most Innovative Gameplay award. The extraction shooter features aggression-based matchmaking, a system Embark Studios recently confirmed to address community questions about player matching algorithms.
While Söderlund acknowledged the studio has writers on staff, he clarified "we don't have anyone working on a TV or film adaptation yet." The CEO stressed the "yet" qualification, leaving open the possibility for future development should the right creative partnership emerge.
The game's continued popularity suggests sustained interest that could support adaptation discussions. With the 2026 gaming calendar underway, industry observers anticipate further announcements regarding Arc Raiders' expansion beyond interactive entertainment.
