A $495 Bluetooth speaker shaped like a cremation urn marks Spotify's return to hardware sales after discontinuing its Car Thing device in 2022. The streaming service partnered with canned water brand Liquid Death on the "Eternal Playlist Urn," a limited-edition product that blends music streaming with mortality.

Only 150 units are available for purchase in the United States at $495 each, with customers limited to five per order. The white polyester resin urn weighs 2.4 pounds and features a discreet Bluetooth speaker embedded in its lid, complete with USB-C charging and a blue indicator light.

Spotify hasn't disclosed audio specifications for the speaker, but reviewers note the enclosed design likely produces echoey sound quality. The urn isn't intended primarily for housing ashes according to some reports, positioning it instead as a collector's item or novelty piece.

The collaboration includes an "Eternal Playlist Generator" tool exclusive to US-based Spotify users. The digital feature prompts listeners with questions like "What's your eternal vibe?" and "What's your go-to ghost noise?" to create personalized afterlife soundtracks synced directly to the urn's speaker.

Liquid Death brings its trademark edgy marketing approach to the partnership, having previously released limited-edition products including Travis Barker-branded enemas and tea cans containing trace amounts of Ozzy Osbourne's DNA. The company describes the urn project as making "death finally a lot less boring."

For Spotify, this marks the first hardware venture since ending support for its Car Thing dashboard accessory in late 2024 after discontinuing production in 2022.

The streaming service maintains both its own logo and Liquid Death branding on each urn's exterior. The seven-inch-wide, seven-inch-deep, eleven-inch-tall design avoids gothic themes for what the companies call a "minimal and respectful" aesthetic suitable for display in homes or columbaria. Each unit ships with capacity restrictions preventing international orders beyond US borders.
