Samsung announced the Freestyle+ portable projector ahead of CES 2026, doubling brightness to 430 ISO lumens with new AI-powered automation features.
The updated projector delivers nearly twice the brightness of its predecessor, reaching 430 ISO lumens according to Samsung's specifications. This improvement addresses previous criticism of low-light performance while maintaining the compact cylindrical design that rotates 180 degrees for ceiling or wall projection.
Samsung's AI OptiScreen technology automates setup with four key features. 3D Auto Keystone corrects image distortion on uneven surfaces like corners or curtains. Real-time Focus maintains sharpness when the projector moves, while Screen Fit adjusts images for compatible screens. Wall Calibration analyzes surface colors and patterns to minimize visual distractions.
Audio capabilities include a built-in 360-degree speaker and Q-Symphony support for syncing with Samsung soundbars. The system creates layered audio experiences without external speakers, according to Samsung's press release.
The Freestyle+ incorporates Vision AI Companion, Samsung's conversational assistant that debuted on TVs last year. Users can ask questions about on-screen content like "What else has this actor been in?" or "What's the all-time record between these two teams?"
Samsung will showcase the projector at CES 2026 in Las Vegas from January 6-9. Global availability begins in the first half of 2026 through phased regional rollouts. Pricing remains unannounced, though previous Freestyle models launched at $799-$899.
Hun Lee, Executive Vice President of Samsung's Visual Display Business, stated the Freestyle+ "makes it easier to enjoy a consistent, high-quality experience wherever you are" by combining portability with intelligent AI optimization.
The original Freestyle launched in 2023 as one of the first truly portable home projectors. ZDNET previously called the Freestyle "one of the most complete portable projectors" and the Freestyle 2 "the best tech gadget I've tested in the past year."
Samsung's update positions the Freestyle+ against growing competition in portable projection. The market has seen rapid advancement as consumers demand better performance from home entertainment products that balance professional-grade visuals with user-friendly operation.
