Donald Glover will voice Yoshi in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Nintendo confirmed during a March 9 Direct presentation that unveiled the film's final trailer ahead of its April 1 release. The actor joins Luis Guzmán as Wart and Issa Rae as Honey Queen in new cast additions for the animated sequel.

All three characters appear in footage from the trailer, which shows Bowser Jr. attempting to rescue his father from Mario and Luigi while Princess Peach's castle gets torn from the Mushroom Kingdom.

"This movie will be the centerpiece of the anniversary."

Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto called the film "the centerpiece" of Super Mario Bros.' 40th anniversary celebrations during the presentation. "Since September of last year, we've been taking various initiatives for the Super Mario Brothers 40th anniversary," he said according to IGN.

The casting announcements resolve months of speculation about who would voice Yoshi after previous trailers featured the character without naming an actor. Glover, also known as musician Childish Gambino, brings star power following roles in Community, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and The Lion King remake.

Guzmán's Wart represents a deep cut from Nintendo history, the villain last appeared as the final boss in 1988's Super Mario Bros. 2.

Issa Rae voices Honey Queen, leader of the Honeyhive Galaxy who debuted in 2007's Super Mario Galaxy.

Production returns Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic as directors with Matthew Fogel writing the screenplay, reuniting the team behind 2023's The Super Mario Bros. Movie. That film earned more than $1.3 billion worldwide according to Gematsu, establishing a successful template for Nintendo's cinematic ambitions.

Nintendo is marking MAR10 Day (March 10) with promotions tied to both the movie and franchise anniversary. The company announced a sweepstakes offering trips to Universal Orlando Resort or Universal Studios Hollywood through its My Nintendo rewards program.

Fans can enter by redeeming Platinum Points on Nintendo's website through May 31. Winners choose between a Florida vacation valued at $4,875 or California trip worth $4,290 according to Nintendo's official announcement.

The Nintendo Today app will distribute 40 digital collectible cards starting March 11, with additional mobile wallpapers available to users who check in at theaters using the application.

Universal Pictures handles worldwide distribution for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie when it opens April 1 in United States theaters with international markets following throughout the month.
