Welcome to Core Mud, an interactive text MUD set on the planet formal star-charts refer to as Hermes 571-G, but that everyone in the know refers to simply as "Core". Core is one of the most distant settlements known to mankind, most famous for its lucrative yet oppressive mines. But more than mankind can be found here; Core is a diverse group of 9 races in total, all vying for recognition or profits, or both, working for The Company, the megalithic entity running the colony itself. To The Company, everything is secondary to profits. It is up to you to determine how best to survive in this environment, whether that be through combat training, superior mining skills, or technical prowess.

Core MUD is always free to play and features a fun and supportive atmosphere. Roleplaying is encouraged but not mandatory. Mining is your primary source of income, but there are multiple ways to scrape together a few credits... or a few million. Core Mud also features an economy which is player-driven; players own merchandise shops featuring energy weaponry or useful tools, pubs featuring assorted alcoholic (of course) and non-alcoholic beverages, and clinics for healing, to name a few. Phaet. Phaet is everything, everywhere, and everywhen. Phaet is the all. The creator. Before time, before space, there was Phaet. From, and by, Phaet all that is, became. Feeling the need for companionship, Nixil, came to be. Nixil was the first. An experiment without a control, without guidelines. If Phaet is capable of regret, Nixil is regrettable. Others followed, becoming what Phaet had intended Nixil to be. These 'gods' as they would come to be called were of Phaet as was Nixil, but to a much lesser degree. Nixil harassed and tormented these gods, and always argued with Phaet. When Phaet created what mortals know as matter, space, and time, Nixil confronted Phaet insisting that such an uncontrolled abomination should not be brought forth. Nixil was scolded for his doubt and withdrew. However, after corrupting a number of the gods to his point of view. Nixil again confronted Phaet and demanded that he stop. Upon Phaet's refusal, Nixil became enraged. Nixil lashed out at the creation in an attempt to destroy it. To protect the creation, Phaet banished Nixil to the emptiness between matter, space, and time. This place, known as the Void, was of Nothing. Forced to maintain Nixil's imprisonment, Phaet had to let the creation evolve on its own. The gods did what they could to nurture and beautify the creation in honor of Phaet. Within the creation formed things known as worlds, stars, moons, and various other celestial bodies. On some of the worlds life began and evolved. Beings of various types grew to sentience and intrigued Phaet, the gods, and even Nixil, who could see everything but was unable to affect it. On one of these worlds, Entia, numerous beings grew to sentience. Many of these beings also evolved the ability to manipulate the balance of matter, space, and time. The manipulation became known as magic.

The world of Entia is again at war. The forces of chaos once again seek to destroy the world itself. It is a time of fear and darkness. It is a time for those with courage, to step forward and defend their beliefs, and their very existence.

BlackMUD is a Diku/Silly based MUD, although it has become something far more than either. The world of Entia is a wonderous and challenging place. It boasts over 90 original areas, made up of 35000 crafted rooms (and growing), all designed around a comprehensive world theme and history.

Good role-playing is encouraged and rewarded, although not required. With a wide array of races, cities, classes and sub-classes, BlackMUD offers the player a wide world of adventure and excitement.

Fantasy

MUME has been around a number of years and has a lot of interesting features. It has thousands of rooms, covering the Blue Mountains in the west, the Grey Havens, Bree, the Shire, Fornost in the north, Tharbad in the south, Rivendell, the Misty Mountains, the Carrock and Lórien to the east. There are other places such as the dreaded Mines of Moria, the Orc Caves, the dark and ancient Old Forest, the forest of Mirkwood, the mysterious forest Fangorn and the Troll Warrens.

You can meet a lot of interesting people, such as the elves Cirdan, Elrond, Arwen, Celeborn or Galadriel, the leader of the Istari-Council Saruman, the mean trolls Bill, Bert and Tom or you can just buy a beer in Barliman's famous Inn. The mysterious Tom Bombadil sings his songs in the Old Forest, in which Old Man Willow has taken its roots long ago. And deep down in the earth, in the deepest mines of Moria, you may find a horror that was forgotten a long time ago. You will also meet many others from whom you heard the one or other tale or who are new to you.

You also can solve many quests. You can open ancient dwarven tombs or help a poor shopkeeper find something he lost, defeat fearsome enemies and search for ancient lore. Explore long forgotten towers and hidden places or just lean back with a good beer and listen to the one or other story, told by one of the storytellers.

Players can choose among several different races, each with some unique characteristics. The races are separated into three striving factions. Dwarves, Elves, Half-Elves, Hobbits and Men — among them are the shapeshifting Beornings — are eternally at war with the Orcs, Trolls and Black Númenóreans. Moreover, the orkish tribe of the Zaugurz is trying to expand its territory at the expense of the Tarkhnarb Orcs of Goblin Gate. Most of this conflict takes place to the east and south of the town of Bree, but rare raids or solitary agents of the Red Eye have made it to as far west as the Dwarven homes in the Blue Mountains.

MUME, Multi-Users in Middle-earth, is a DikuMUD based upon J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth that has been continuously running, enhanced, and remastered since fall of 1991. In MUME, players are encouraged to role-play as they live in this meticulously crafted world exploring the conflict leading into the War of the Ring during the late Third Age. The action takes place nearly 100 years prior to The Hobbit but long after the loss of the One Ring by Sauron. The key to Erebor has just been found by Gandalf in Dol Guldur and all the epic tales narrated in The Lord of the Rings may take place.

MUME covers 28,000+ original rooms from the mighty Dwarven Halls beyond the Gulf of the Lhûn in the West to the Mountains of Mirkwood in the East, and from the ruins of Fornost Erain in the North to the fortress of Isengard in the South.

Both astronomers and sailors alike agree that the world is not only flat, but it is in fact shaped like a disc. Sitting roughly in the center of this disc lies the massive main continent of Pyrathia. Few men can claim to have seen the edge of the world, because oceans surround the continent and stretch as far as superstitious sailors will go, with but the occasional island to
interrupt the sea. Even those who have magically traveled to the edge have not reported seeing anything worth the effort of such exploration.

Certainly the most populous section of the world, Pyrathians simply assume that they are also the most civilized. And at one time this may have been the case, for far back in the mists of time it is rumored that one empire ruled the entire continent with all races living in peace and harmony.
A Splintered Realm

But in the present, that legendary empire lies shattered into many pieces constantly fighting for dominance in a variety of shifting alliances. The largest is the lawless sprawl of Uxmal in the center of the continent. Uxmal acts as a buffer between some of the more aggressive nations. Radiating outward are smaller kingdoms. The dark and militant Empire of the Bright Star lies to the east. Necromancers of the Northern Wastes practice their dark magics to the north. The tolerant but ever besieged Kingdom of Taslamar spans the northwest. The fae races of the Ayamaoan Alliance thrive in the forests and fields the southwest. The serene but exotic Dominion of Zhenshi reigns in the south, near the desert. Beneath all of these kingdoms lie the Deep Realm. There, deep-elves war with the dwarves and their gnomish allies for supremacy.

Far from safe and peaceful, Pyrathia is a treacherous place to live but it certainly helps to create a hearty breed of adventurers…

Shattered Kingdoms (SK) is a text-based sword and sorcery fantasy role playing game, played online by many people at the same time who each assume the identity of a different character.

Our players are readers and gamers – those compelled by adventure, role play and being a part of an ongoing saga story line. The world of Pyrathia is filled with turmoil and conflict. The political and physical landscapes can change over time. Some of these changes are the direct efforts of players through their mortal characters. Other changes are beyond their control as the gods and other powerful forces have real influence on the realm.

Avatar

Originally based on Merc/Diku code. Avatar is a highly modified, non-PK, newbie and family friendly Medieval Fantasy MUD. Players from many nationalities and from a wide age range are made welcome here.

There are hundreds of socials as well as over 200 mainly custom areas containing over 12,000 rooms to explore and over 10,000 unique mobiles and items to find. Avatar has inline color, alias codes, gear saving and extensive backup systems implemented.

Over 1000 players have chosen from the 7 currently accessible player classes and the more than 20 player races available at startup. There is even one unique evolutionary race that you can choose. There are additional classes and races available to more experienced players. Play is enriched by class and race based spell and skill modifiers as well as racial skills and prerequisite skill/spell trees.

The 50 Mortal levels, 999 of Hero levels, 999 Lord levels mean that there is always plenty of scope for advancement.

The Lord of the Rings is the saga of a group of sometimes reluctant heroes who set forth to save their world from consummate evil. Its many worlds and creatures were drawn from Tolkien's extensive knowledge of philology and folklore.

Mordor is a MUD based on the works of J. R. R. Tolkien, especially The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. While playing the game, you can explore over 75 unique areas including: Isengard, Edoras, Midgewater, Fangorn, Shelob's Lair, Lothlorien, Rivendell, Lonely Mountain, Helms Deep, Minas Morgul, and many more. New areas are added regularly.

Mordor's unique multi-class system, along with its remort classes, allows you to completely customize your character. Role-play as good or evil and engage in player vs. player combat by joining an alliance, such as the Eye of Sauron, the Hand of Saruman, the Haradrims, the Last Alliance, the Northern Rangers, and the White Council. Solo and mercenary classes are also available, along with an alliance dedicated to helping out new players -- the Guardians of Mordor.

All alliances are ever evolving through the expansion of their halls and the addition of new alliance-specific equipment. We have a full time Quest Master and often offer Immortal quests.

Aabahran: The Forsaken Lands

Aabahran is a multi-user dungeon, or MUD. A MUD is a multi-player computer game that combines elements of role-playing games, hack and slash style computer games and social chat rooms. MUDs are text-driven, where players read descriptions of rooms, objects, events, other characters, and computer-controlled creatures or non-player characters (NPCs) in a virtual world.

Aabahran has been in existence since June of 2000, ranking it in line with many of the long-standing MUDs still in existence. Its world is rich, dynamic and exciting. It is also a roleplaying-enforced, playerkilling MUD. What this means is that in Aabahran, you are required to play a character to its full extent. Additionally, you may kill other players (after a certain rank and within our highly balanced playerkilling ranges). In fact, because Aabahran has a balanced rare & unique item system, you may need to kill other players in order to get that special sword or shield you’ve been looking for! The world is massive, with over 10,000 unique rooms for you to explore. Because of the variety of races and classes, the game remains fresh and exciting, and endlessly replayable.
