The world’s fifth smartphone maker and private Chinese software company, Xiaomi is back on the market with new laptops. It has been over a year since the giant released its first laptop series: Mi Notebook Air.
Mi Notebook Pro
The 15.6 inch laptop uses an 8th-gen Intel quad-core CPU, NVIDIA GeForce MX150 GPU and SSD. The NVIDIA GeForce MX150 GPU is the mobile version of GT1030.
Xiaomi’s Mi Notebook Pro is very similar to Apple’s MacBook Pro and it seems that the Chinese company enjoys mocking the American brand.
To top the MacBook Pro, the Notebook Pro has a greater range of ports: full-size HDMI, SD card reader, two USB-C ports and two full size USB 3.0 ports. The device also comes with a 1.5mm key travel and full-size keyboard.
Xiaomi also uses a fingerprint reader which is integrated in the top-right corner of the trackpad (multi-touch trackpad). The battery is pretty good, a 4-ecll 60Wh battery with quick charge, making it possible to reach 50% in 35 minutes. The Harman Infinity speakers are a perfect match for the Gorilla Glass 3 screen and the magnesium frame inside an aluminum chassis (15.9 mm thick).
So far the specs of the new generation of Xiaomi laptops are very desirable and make the devices strong competitors against the MacBooks.
The only disadvantages against Apple’s devices could be the 1080 display resolution and the 72-percent NTSC gamut.
The laptops come in three variants: the top model pack (1,070$) with a i7-8555OU chip (16GB of RAM and 256GB SSD); the 980$ model with an i7-855OU chip (8GB of RAM and 256SSD) and the 860$ base model with the same RAMs and SSD as the 980$ model and a i5825OU processor.
Unfortunately, the laptops will only be available in China during their release on the 15th of September.
