Most technology enthusiasts are aware of the fact that Xiaomi is one of the best brands that provide smartphones with great specs for a more affordable price. However, the problem is that the phone is tough to find and purchase outside of China. This is all about to change since the Chinese company is planning to add more locations and change up their marketing strategies. Why are they doing this? Well, they are celebrating the company’s 8th anniversary this year and they will be doing it by launching the Xiaomi Mi 8.
We heard that Xiaomi is going to host an event where they will finally make an official announcement about the release date for Xiaomi Mi 8 at the end of this month, on the 31st of May. This news came from GizmoChina who saw a teaser for this event. They then posted this information on Weibo. For those that do not know, Weibo is a very reliable source when it comes to details about smartphones since the people that post there are not known to share fake rumors. Their info usually checks out.
Mi 8 or Mi 7
Last we heard from Xiaomi they launched the Mi 6. Xiaomi Mi 6 is an excellent phone in itself but why is there not Mi 7 to complete the line? Well, to put it quite simply, the company decided to settle for the name of Mi 8 since this phone marks the 8th anniversary of the brand. Understandable, right?

Android Headline has posted a small list of specs that the phone is going to come with. The most exciting thing is the one that you will not be able to see with your naked eye but that you will regularly be using when you unlock your phone: the in-screen fingerprint sensor. Xiaomi is not the first company to have done this, Vivo got ahead of them, but the Chinese company is making up pretty fast for the lost time.
The size of the display is going to be a staggering 6-inches, and the screen will also have a notch. Love it, hate it, the notch has turned up to be a very useful invention which is why a large number of phone brands have decided to adopt the design and give it some tweaks. The smartphone will also feature 3D face scanning. The processor will be the current best available on the market, namely Snapdragon 845.
When it comes to internal storage and RAM, the phone will come in two variants. One will have 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, and the other one will offer 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
Among other notable features, we can name the wireless charging and the AI camera, which we believe will be put to good use and loved by all the users who will purchase this smartphone.
From what you have heard so far you may think that the price for Xiaomi Mi 8 is going to be the same as that for other flagship smartphones that have been released this year which have similar specs. You may think that you will have to dish out almost one thousand dollars to purchase this smartphone. Well, you would be entirely wrong.
The price of the phone is set to start at 2,799 Yuan. Converted into other currencies that would be around 440 dollars or 330 pounds. People in Australia will look at having to spend 580 Australian dollars if they want to own this smartphone. This price is very low for a phone with these kinds of specs, so we are starting to believe that Xiaomi will become a significant competitor for Samsung, OnePlus and other brands that have smartphones at higher prices but with very similar specs, in some cases the same.
It will be interesting to see how the situation develops and how other brands will respond to Xiaomi’s influence once the company branches out to Europe and the US.
The Chinese company does not have an official presence in the US or Europe thus far, so it will be very hard for people from these two areas to get their hands on this smartphone. Now, Xiaomi has announced that 2018 will be the year where they will finally branch out to Europe as well. They have that they plan to launch their phones in France, Spain, Germany and some other countries in Europe. So far we do not know when the company is going to plan to come to the US as well, but we believe that will happen shortly.
