The upcoming Xiaomi Mi 7 will receive wireless charging. This news comes after the Chinese firm already gave some clues indicating that its next flagship will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset. Xiaomi confirmed via WeChat that the Mi 7 is to receive wireless charging technology.

More on the news

The wireless technology will be provided by the US-based Integrated Device Technology (IDT) and it is unknown how much each module will cost. It is speculated that it will be around $5.

Xiaomi joined the Wireless Power Consortium

Three months ago the Chinese firm became part of the Wireless Power Consortium. Mi 7 will support Qi standard wireless charging and the device is supposed to enter production starting February 2018.

IDT has several wireless charging modules ranging from 3-watt single direction to 15-watt dual-direction. It remains unknown so far which specific module is to be used on Xiaomi Mi 7. This will be the first Xiaomi device to feature wireless charging.

Wireless Power Consortium (WPC)

This association was created back in 2008 and in ten years it gathered a number of 243 members. Some of the members include tech giants such as Apple, Samsung, LG, Sony and more. Back in 2017, Apple joined the WPC and its newest smartphones, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X come with wireless charging technology.

Other news regarding Xiaomi Mi 7

The newest Xiaomi smartphone might come with Qi standard wireless charging, a 6-inch AMOLED display and a Snapdragon 845 chipset. Other speculated specification includes 6.8 GB of RAM and its launch would be in 2018.

The device has to be connected to a charging pad and the pad is charged to a power outlet. The magnetic field created is what makes the phone battery charge.
