Xiaomi just added a new smartphone to their ranks, namely the Xiaomi Mi 5X. What is most interesting about this new smartphone is that it sports a dual rear camera. The successful launch of the new device took place this Wednesday, so naturally a lot of questions on the Xiaomi Mi 5X have already begun to form. One important aspect that needs to be discussed is how the Xiaomi Mi 5X compares with the company’s other dual rear camera smartphone, the Mi 6. This is exactly what we will try to understand today, so let’s get right into it.
Specs and Hardware
As far as specs and hardware go, the Xiaomi Mi 5X doesn’t stand a chance in front of the much more elegant and premium feeling Xiaomi Mi 6. The modest Xiaomi Mi 5X has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset that clocks in at 2 GHz and runs on 4GB of RAM. On the flipside, the much more advanced, albeit older, Xiaomi Mi 6 sports a brand new Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, the same chipset that powers Samsung’s two new premium devices that launched this year, the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus.
Both the Xiaomi Mi 5X and the Xiaomi Mi 6 sport two 12MP cameras on the back. One is for wide angle shots, while the other excels with 2X optical zoom. The frontcam is where the two differ from one another yet again. The Xiaomi Mi 5X has a more modest 5MP selfie camera that also supports video calls, while the much more robust Xiaomi Mi 6 has an 8MP camera on the front to be used for the same purposes. However, the Xiaomi Mi 5X is also cheaper than the Xiaomi Mi 6, so it depends on how much you’re willing to spend on a new phone.
