Xbox Live server status

Before moving to other solutions that could be considered more complex, make sure there are no Xbox Live server issues. You can do that by going to the Xbox Live status page.

Reboot your Xbox

Press and hold the Xbox button on your console (keep holding the button for about 5 seconds). The light on the back will turn off meaning the console is off. Once the Xbox is off, unplug the power cord and wait for a couple of minutes. Plug the cord and turn the Xbox on. This should give the system a sort of refreshment and all the issues and bugs should be gone.

Reboot your modem/router

Sometimes, the issue is in the Wi-Fi network. What you need to do is turn off the modem or router, unplug the power cable and wait for a few minutes. Plug the cables back and turn the modem/router back on. When doing this, make sure to check the cables including ethernet cables. Perhaps one of the cables is broken or damaged which can cause connection problems. If that’s the case, you will have to replace the cable.

Check Xbox Network Connection

You can do a network test on your console. Here is how:

  • Press the Xbox button
  • Go to System > General > Network Settings
  • Select Test multiplayer connection

You can find the solutions for various Xbox network errors and issues here.

Factory Reset your Xbox

If you tried the solutions above and the solutions for network issues on the official Xbox page, then you may factory reset your console. Before doing this, keep in mind that everything on the console will be wiped out and the settings will go back to factory defaults. Make sure to have a backup. Here is how to do that:

  • On the controller, press the Home button
  • Select the gear icon to access the Settings
  • Go to System > Console Info
  • Select Reset Console
  • Select Reset and remove everything

As soon as you select that option, the process will begin.

Hopefully one of the solutions we have listed here will fix the issue and you’ll successfully connect to Xbox Live.
