Web Browsers’ Battle: Chrome in the Lead

Although most of PCs use Microsoft Windows operating system, the Microsoft Edge searching engine has not managed to become popular. According to statistics websites StatCounter and NetMarketShare, Microsoft Edge has reached only 5 % of the market share.

What is Microsoft Edge?

It is Microsft’s web browser and it is used with Windows 10, Windows 10 Mobile and Xbox One. Even though 91% of PC’s use Windows operating system, the web browser did not manage to attract internet users.

The winner, the most used web browser, with 60 % of the market share is Chrome. According to StatCounter, Google Chrome has a total share of 53, 91%. A lower number that the one presented by NetMarketShare. They present the browser as currently having 59, 49% of shares. The numbers depend according to regions and devices.

What about tablets? What is the most popular web browser for tablet users? According to statistical studies, Safari is the most popular one worldwide (59, 2 %). Google Chrome reached 24, 37 % shares on tablets.

Safari is the second most used web browser on PCs (14,41 % worldwide shares), according to StatCounter. NetMarketShare contradicts these numbers and presents Internet Explorer as the second most popular browser with 16, 84%. It is difficult to say who is right and who is wrong; however there is something that needs to be taken into account. NetMarketShare evaluates 20,000 websites to get their quantitative data, while StatCounter uses 2,5 million websites.

Microsoft Edge browser has been released in 2015 and it has yet to reach popularity, many web browser users do not even know it exists. NetMarketShare has presented data according to which, Microsoft Edge’s popularity only improved by 0, 50%.

There are plenty of web browsers, such as Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Bing etc.
