After US, Hong Kong Grants iPhone X Design Patents to Apple

Finally, China granted patent rights to Apple for its iPhone X design. Apple was granted patents by Hong Kong Patent Office for 6 sets of iPhone X design. Each set has 6 different images of the smartphone.

Needless to say, iPhone X is no less than a transformation of the smartphone, which has no button on its screen. Even the cameras are no less than an innovation. It was quite obvious for Apple to move a patent application in China given the fact that China has the maximum number of mobile manufacturers, who could easily copy the design – however, without substance – without impunity.

As far as the smartphone design is concerned, there were no textual details provided, it seems. Instead, the patent was acquired on the design aspects to avoid providing any specific details of the design as well as features.

The Apple iPhone X design patent covers the whole of the design aspects including screen, front and rear camera placement among other aspects. Apple, in its application, has sought patents for all the aspects of the design, even the tiniest details such as texture, mic area, and the speaker area to ensure no aspect can be copied by any other mobile maker and every aspect can legally be protected.

Industry experts hailed Apple’s move considering the fact that there were rumors that Apple may alter the Notch part in its next Avatar in 2019. At the same time, competitors of Apple are already thinking of altering Notch design on their own next smartphone to have edge over iPhone X design.

Needless to point, Samsung has already copied a couple of aspects of iPhone X design, such as 3D face recognition and Emoji AR, but avoided the Notch area considering Apple’s own reservations.

Only future will tell if Apple alters the Notch Design or comes up with better solutions. For now, with patent, one can assuredly say that the present iPhone X design is going to stay here for long. Apple was granted Single Design patent by the US authorities in January 2018.
