A lot of phablets are coming out with 2K screens, but that would have made the Z Ultra a terrible smartphone. The 1080p, 6.4-inch screen already saps the battery fairly quickly compared to other phablets. If Sony had gone with a 2K screen, then the device probably wouldn't last more than three to five hours on a charge, which would have made the device unusable.

There really is not much need for a 2K screen on any mobile device. If your batteries are going to drain faster to power up a screen that just gives you only marginally improved image quality, it's just not worth it. Yes, tech heads go nuts for new and improved features, and the manufacturers know this. But it all comes down to how practical the device is at the end of the day.

I agree, the device would've been unusable if Sony opted for a qHD screen. I think that they knew this would be an issue and decided to go for an 1080p panel, which is more than enough in my opinion for today's standards.
