    In this article i will show you How to Unlock Bootloader on Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 6, Nexus 4 and Nexus 10.

    How to Unlock Bootloader on Nexus
    Why do i have to unlock boot loader ?

    By unlocking your Nexus your bootloader it allows you to install custom OTA firmwares, just like the one which you will install later in this article.

    If you haven't already

    >Download Android SDK> Unzip and install.

    By downloading this software, you will get

    • Android SDK Tools
    • Android Platform-tools
    • The latest Android platform
    If you haven't already

    > For Android SDK to work properly you need to download Google USB driver

    or

    > Launch the Android SDK Manager- SDK Manager.exe, >Expand Extra tab >Check and install Google USB Driver package

    The Google USB Driver is needed only for windows users , it is needed to perform adb

    By downloading Google USB driver, it enables your Android phone to communicate to Android Platform-tools , so that you can Unlock your boot loader on your Nexus effectively .

    > If you do not have Java installed, you need to download Java for Android SDK package to work

    >Connect Your nexus to the PC

    > Make sure USB debugging mode is enabled, Go to settings >Developer option> USB debugging mode check

    >Turn off your Nexus

    >Boot in Fastboot -Most Nexus Fastboot mode is access by (holding power button+ vol UP + vol DOWN)

    >Hold Shift and Right Mouse button for 4 seconds then release

    >A pop up box will appears, click on "Open Command Prompt here"

    It is important to backup your files, because once you unlock your Nexus Bootloader all the data on your phone will be erased

    >Type

    fastboot oem unlock

    >Confirm On your Nexus Phone, using the volumn up and down and power button to select.

    >Remove your USB Cable then reboot your Phone. Not in fastboot

    On the Nexus 10 ,after you have unlocked your bootloader, the internal storage will be unformatted and you must format it with this codes in the same CMD, Only if you have a Nexus 10

    fastboot format cache
    fastboot format userdata

    You are finished Unlocking your Nexus





    How to lock Bootloader on Nexus?
    The Bootloader can left unlocked but it is recommended to lock your bootloader for security and privacy reasons

    To lock back your Nexus 4/5/6/7/10 Bootloader :

    >Enable USB debugging mode-(Found above)

    >Connect Nexus to Pc

    >Turn off phone

    > Boot in Fastboot (holding power button+ vol UP + vol DOWN)

    >On the same folder where you installed the SDK package

    >Type

    fastboot oem lock
    You are done locking your nexus bootloader
