If there’s one thing that everyone knows about Apple products, it’s that they are more expensive than your run-of-the-mill devices. And that is mostly for good reason. However, when Apple teased that the price of its upcoming addition to the iPhone line, namely the iPhone 8, will start around 1,000 dollars, many users were shocked and outraged. If that turns out to be true, the iPhone 8 will be the most expensive Apple smartphone ever.
However, if this happens, it will most likely be because production costs for the new iPhone 8 have increased tremendously since Apple’s last device launch. But there are good reasons behind this increase in price. For one, longtime Apple supplier TPK requested they be paid twice as much in order to integrate the new 3D Touch display for the 10th anniversary device Apple is releasing this year.
The reason for choosing to start integrating 3D Touch displays into their iPhone line is in its turn motivated by their shift towards OLED technology. In order to successfully incorporate OLED technology into phone screens, the 3D Touch display is a costly must-have. And this is not the only component price rise that Apple has encountered on the iPhone 8 production line thus far. Therefore, the high price of the device is totally accounted for.
And as far as rumors indicate, Apple has already set in stone their new device’s design, so there is no turning back and making it cheaper now. However, we’re sure that iPhone fans will still buy the new anniversary edition iPhone 8 as soon as it hits pre-sales. After all, Apple has such a devoted fan base that we shouldn’t worry too much about their decisions. And, after all, the high price point is also perfectly justified by the device’s specs, so it’s all good.
