Developers and distributors of popular video games would want to extract the maximum out of a successful franchise before introducing its successor version. This applies to The Sims 5 game as well. The Sims 4 is currently being played by millions and Maxis the developer along with EA, the publisher have not made any firm announcement for the launch of The Sims 5. The best guess among observers is that the release could happen in 2021 when EA and Maxis would celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Sims game’s introduction. The official announcement on this could come in 2020 itself, many people believe.
No Communication from EA
There has not been any clear statement from EA on this yet. The only piece of a hint, if it can be called so, was from a remark in the passing made by the CEO of EA mentioning “The Sims for a new generation”. This is being taken to mean that he meant the next version of The Sims. The media and the game’s enthusiasts generally latch on to every word uttered by senior functionaries at game developing companies. Based on such utterances, the conclusion is drawn that the next version of the game could be nearing release.
The Sims 4 is Still Going Good
Game developers follow a 4 to the 5-year pattern for launching a new version of a video game. This is after a number of updates are released of one version and when there is a sense that the gamers have grown weary of playing the same game. In the case of The Sims 4, it has been six years since it was first played. It is still being downloaded and played.
“The Sims Online” is another facet of the game that keeps the gamers interested. The online version allows for multiplayer gameplay and the younger generation players get excited with these. The Sims 5 will also carry all the features of the online game when released.
The bottom line is that it now stands almost confirmed that the announcement of The Sims 5 release will be made in 2020 and the actual release will happen in 2021.
