According to a Barclays research note, the new iPhones arriving this autumn will come without a headphone jack adaptor. This might mean that all those who prefer to use wired headphones on the upcoming Apple mobile devices will have to purchase a dongle that can be plugged into the Lightning port of the iPhone. Using wireless headphones might be another possibility.
First, the headphone jack was removed, now it is time for the adaptor
Almost two years ago, Apple decided to remove the headphone jack from all their future devices, starting with iPhone 7. This move, considered to be brave by many, marked the start of extensive use of an adaptor that can turn the Lightning port into a jack, allowing the users to attach the wired headphones. However, once the adaptor is plugged, it is impossible to charge the phone and enjoy music at the same time. Still, all those who refused to switch to wireless headphones could use their jack-free devices the way it was on the older models.
Cirrus Logic will not supply adaptors for the 2018 iPhones
Even though this news comes from a leak, the source that Barclays mentions is very solid. Cirrus Logic, a supplier of the adaptor for iPhones, revealed to Barclays that it is going to be left out of the iPhones that will debut later this year. For now, we should not expect to hear anything from Apple, as the North American company is known for being secretive when it comes to their upcoming devices.
Apple’s plans for autumn 2018
Luckily, as it was mentioned before, the fans of wired headphones will be still able to use their new iPhones the way they like the most, as they can buy a Lightning-to-3.5mm-headphone-jack adaptor for only $9 through the online store of Apple. However, it is very likely that many customers will not be happy with the fact that the adaptor is going to be left out of the new iPhone’s box.
Three new devices are expected to make their debuts this autumn. Apple is set to release a 6.1-inch basic iPhone, a 5.8-inch iPhone X and a 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus. All three are going to have the design of iPhone X, although the 6.1-inch device will be made of cheaper materials to make it budget-friendly. We may also get a new wireless AirPod this autumn.
