We cannot say that there are many billionaires in the gaming industry. Usually, the money is at companies with multiple shareholders, each having an influence on how the studio works, and now I think you start to understand why some things go wrong. However, there are a few people who have managed to assemble huge personal fortunes, and this number has just been increased by one.
Victor Kislyi, founder and CEO of Wargaming, the company responsible for the giant MMO, World of Tanks, is now a billionaire. More specifically, Wargaming’s value has now increased to about 1.5 billion dollars, and he controls 64 percent of the shares of the company, which also means that Kislyi became one of the richest people on the planet.
Like I said, there aren’t many billionaires in the industry. Basically, the other one would be Gabe Newell, founder and owner of Valve. You know, the company that owns the largest network of digital distribution for games on the planet and plans to never release Half-Life 3? Yeap, that guy.
There’s also Notch, the one who sold Mojang and Minecraft for more than 1 billion dollars, but he’s basically no longer part of the gaming industry because he retired and now all he does is making jokes on Twitter.
And if you wonder why is not Wargaming doing anything else besides World of Tanks, since it’s such a rich company, well… it does, they recently launched a new Master of Orion…
