It is the turn of the US carrier T-Mobile to release software updates to the users of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. This update carries a number of performance enhancements for the device as well as the Android security patches that keep getting released periodically. Here are some details.
It is not surprising to learn that T-Mobile’s update version N960USQU1ARL1 for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is as large as 196.25MB. Software updates are usually large files. That is one reason the users are always advised to download and install them with a Wi-Fi connection.
T-Mobile Has Added Some of its Own Features
Among the files included within this T-Mobile update in January 2019 are some technological upgradations that the carrier has developed. One is “New Calling Service Enhancement — Caller Verified (Stir/Shaken)”. Now, here, STIR and SHAKEN are acronyms and are expanded to read Secure Telephony Identity Revisited and Secure Handling of Asserted information using toKENs, respectively.
These are partly called enhancement features partly serve security enhancement as far as the device is concerned. There are pranksters who make calls to users of smartphones and the identity of the person calling could be suspected. Through the application of this technology, T-Mobile does a quick check back on the identity of the person making an inbound call.
Besides the above, there are improvements in the camera preview feature. Software updates do take care of any bugs reported between the last update and the present one. These changes are part of this new update as well. Performance improvements are also made through the update.
Some users have raised in some forums that one particular update, RCS Universal Profile 1.0 support is somehow missing in the update. The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 was supposed to have received this update as well.
The OTA update is already in the air and several users of the device have reported having received the updates. In case you own a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and you are yet to get the update on your device, you can download it manually, via the Settings>>Software Updates>>Download manually.
