Apple iPhone models released in 2018 have a feature in them to use an e-SIM and T-Mobile the service provider in the US is now ready with the support for these phones. Users of the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and the iPhone XR can go to the App Store on their Apple device and make use of the service in the US. The phones need to be unlocked for this service to work.
Many Segments Can Benefit
The new e-SIM service on iPhones will be very handy for those making short trips to the US from other locations and can save on the need to reach a physical store to pick up a SIM and insert it. They need to simply download the app and after making the payment for one of the 3 prepaid plans unveiled, they can simply start using the phone. It can’t get easier than this.
The second set of customers T-Mobile is trying to attract are those who have never used their service before. These customers can try out T-Mobile by picking up one of the plans and if they like it can switch over later. T-Mobile does propose to introduce postpaid plans too in the near future.
Thirdly, if you are already a T-Mobile customer and wish to add another line to your iPhone, the e-SIM feature will be convenient to do so.
The Three Plans to Choose From
As mentioned, there are 3 different plans T-Mobile is offering; at the top end, you can pay $70 for a 28-day usage and enjoy unlimited data, voice and text. At $40 for 28 days, the data is limited to 10 GB; no restrictions on making calls and sending texts. And then the trial pack or meant for tourists @$30, you can get 2 GB LTE data and 1000 minutes of talk-time and this plan will be valid for only 21 days.
The T-Mobile customers can avail it on their phones if there is an e-SIM facility in it. Apple has introduced it only in its latest OS version, iOS 12.1.1. T-Mobile’s service will go live before the end of this month.
Other carriers in the US, like AT&T and Verizon are already there or not very far behind and one must see them coming out with similar e-SIM plans in next to no time.
Apple’s iPhones listed above don’t have the e-SIM facility in their devices sold in China. There the phones have two physical SIM slots.
