Both the 2017 Surface Pro 5 and the 10.5-inches version of the iPad Pro will be arriving pretty much at the same time. Both of them are tablets combined with keyboards that intend to replace the laptop, but the real question is which one is better?
iPad Pro 10.5
If we were to be honest, we have to agree that Apple really hit the jackpot with this tablet. It’s an extremely good product, and it’s as fast as a laptop, if you can believe that. However, despite the speed factor, there are two reasons why it wouldn’t be such a great replacement for a laptop. Firstly, the iOS is not that useful when it comes to efficiency, compared to a MacBook or Windows laptop. Secondly, the keyboard does not incorporate a trackpad, and the iOS does not support a pointing device either, so that is quite hard to deal with.
2017 Surface Pro Gen 5
Microsoft is not getting left behind either in this tablet race. They are offering two products, the Surface Book, which is a true laptop replacement, and the 2017 Surface Pro. If you pair up the Surface Pro and the Signature Type Cover keyboard (which costs $159.99), then you can truly say you have a replacement for your laptop. Moreover, unlike the previous hybrid, here you run the same Windows 10 OS, not a mobile OS that doesn’t cover many things.
However, even though the Surface Pro is a hybrid, it is being sold as a tablet on its own. Also, the kickstand placed on the back means it’s harder to manage than a clamshell laptop, for instance if you want to work by holding it on your lap.
Both products are excellent devices, but each of them comes with its own issues. It’s all up to you to decide whether you would be more comfortable with one or another.
