Pixel and Pixel 2 received Developer Preview 2/Beta 2 of Android couple of days ago, but this shouldn’t come as a surprise since these two smartphones are Google’s flagships and they are always the first in line when it comes to software updates. Nonetheless, Xperia XZ2 seems to be next in line since Sonny announced that it’s pushing the same operating system update to its flagship smartphone.

Android P Beta 2 Arrives to Xperia XZ2

We need to mention that Sony is moving surprisingly fast when it comes to operating system updates. In fact, Sony’s Xperia XZ2 is the first smartphone that is not created by Google to receive Android P Beta 2. This means that Sony Xperia XZ2 will also be among the first smartphones to receive the new operating system once the full version is released.

Bug Fixes and New Features

Sony Xperia XZ2 owners should be happy to know that Android P Beta 2 will take care of multiple bugs that caused the smartphone to randomly malfunction. With that being said, let’s see what the bug fixes that Android P Beta 2 brings to Sony Xperia XZ2 are:

  • 4G+ causing the modem to crash – FIXED;
  • Microphone randomly stops working – FIXED;
  • Tethering/Wi-Fi Hotspot malfunctioning – FIXED:
  • GPS not working and giving false information – FIXED;
  • Nightlight not working – FIXED;
  • MicroSD cards formatted with exFAT not recognized – FIXED;
  • The difference in audio level between max vs min volume in calls – FIXED.

From the looks of it, Xperia XZ2 owners who are enlisted in Google’s beta program should be happy to receive the new update because it will improve the smartphone’s overall performance.

157 New Emojis

The bug fixes are not the only thing that Android P Beta 2 brings because Google also made sure to introduce 157 new emojis! While the new emojis are cool and they help people express themselves better in text conversations, we need to mention that Google also added small improvements to the new operating system’s gesture navigation system.

The last change that the Android P Beta 2 brings is a new BiometricPrompt API which improves the security of third-party apps which use fingerprint scanners, face unlock and iris scanning systems. Moreover, Android P Beta 2 is being rolled out OTA (over the air) to all Xperia XZ2 smartphones which are currently running on Android Beta 1.
