Japanese giant Sony is known to use the Mobile World Congress (MWC) each year to make important announcements on its upcoming products. This year it will be no different. The company has sent out invites to be present at the MWC 2020 in Barcelona on February 24. The invite itself does not reveal any more details of the launch, not even a teaser. It is left to the fertile imagination of the market pundits to figure out what to expect at the event. The overwhelming consensus appears to be that the Sony Xperia 5 Plus will be the smartphone unveiled by the Japanese company on that day.
Rumored Specifications of the Sony Xperia 5 Plus
There have been rumors about what this new smartphone from Sony will carry in terms of its specifications and key features. The phone is expected to have a large 6.6-inch OLED display with a Full HD+ screen resolution of 1080×2520 pixels and the screen getting protection from Corning Gorilla Glass 6. The tall shape which has come to be identified with the Sony Xperia models with an aspect ratio of 21:9 will be seen on the Sony Xperia 5 Plus as well. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC is being predicted to be the processor to be fitted on this phone coupled with the Adreno 640 GPU. The RAM support will be 6GB and the onboard storage 128GB. A hybrid slot to accommodate a microSD card to take the storage up to 1TB is also being provided. Android 10 will be the operating system out of the box.
Quad Camera Setup in the Rear Rumored
When its Sony, there should be no doubts about the camera section being strong. The Sony Xperia 5 Plus is expected to have a quad-camera set up in the rear with 3 x 12MP sensors and a ToF sensor in the combination. One of the three 12MP sensors will be a telephoto lens while the other would be an ultrawide camera. The front camera for selfies is likely to be an 8MP shooter.
Rumors say that there will be a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and the complete suite of sensors will be onboard. The battery is expected to be 4,000mAh with 18W fast charging support.
Sony Xperia 5 Plus is rumored to be made available in four colors namely Blue, Black, Red, and Grey.
It is expected to be a worldwide launch on February 24 and Sony may announce the prices at the MWC 2020 event.
