Although more and more apps now come with an integrated Stories function (Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Instagram and even WhatsApp), and some of them even make various filters available on their Stories section, OG social media users know that Snapchat was the first, and is still the best app to share photo and video stories on. The appeal of sharing stories is that they’re gone in 24 hours, and nobody can save them (maybe only screenshot, but with videos that doesn’t help a lot).
However, Snapchat can be confusing for new users because it doesn’t have the most user-friendly interface out there. Here is everything you need to know about Snapchat filters and lenses if you’re new to the app, or simply haven’t used these features before.
Where to Find Snapchat Filters and Lenses
For some reason, finding the filter and lens section on Snapchat seems to be an Easter egg hunt. In order to make the menu appear, you need to touch your face on the camera app that opens and wait for it to be recognized. When your face is recognized by Snapchat, geometrical white lines will cover it. Then, the filter and lens menu will appear and you can put any of them on.
How Often Does Snapchat Switch Out Filters and Lenses?
Snapchat is also notorious for always changing up its filter and lens menu. If you find a filter or lens you like one day, take a photo with it because it will be gone soon. Snapchat switches it up every few days, but filters usually come back in the rotation after a while. Only holiday-specific filters and lenses are available only for those holidays, and if they come back, it takes one year.
