Verizon has announced the issuing of OS updates for two Samsung wearables, the Samsung Gear S3 Classic and S3 Frontier. These updates bring a host of improved features for the users of the watches. These are for the Verizon-branded smartwatches and for both, this is the 5th update from the US carrier.
Samsung Gear S3 Classic
The version number for this update is R775VVRU1CRL8. There are many new changes brought with the update. While unlocking the device, you can just rotate the bezel to the passcode numbers instead of having to use the fingers to input them. The size of the device being small, you can tap on the wrong key. The bezel rotation to the right numbers in a sequence ensures you have a smoother and faster unlocking of the watch. The messaging function has been given an upgrade to receive and read multi-media messages, use emojis while replying to messages and so on. You can now read the previous message while replying to an individual when sending a reply. Another update of the Tizen OS gives you the facility to do multitasking on the Samsung Gear S3 Classic. You can make a call and while speaking check something else on the dial. You have to tap the Home button for this and to get back to the call, you can tap on the call icon. There are some changes in the health tracker section too giving you the option to choose the workouts etc. With two new options, the Theater mode and Goodnight mode, you now have the freedom to avoid getting disturbed. And lastly, the Bixby voice assistant can be used for many actions/apps, instead of struggling to use your hands.
Apart from these the usual security patches would also form a part of this latest update on the smartwatch.
Samsung Gear S3 Frontier
The Tizen 4.0 update for this wearable device from Verizon carries the number R765VVRU1CRL8. The changes being implemented with the update are identical to the ones described above for the Gear S3 Classic smartwatch.
You will need to check if there is sufficient charge left in the watch to receive the updates and that the connection you have on the device is a Wi-Fi or Verizon Wireless. It’s a good six months+ since the last update was released for these two devices from Samsung. Ensure you get them correctly.
