Samsung has sprung a surprise on the users of its Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch by sending a fresh firmware update. The surprise element here is because the company did not send any update for the device in the last two years. The Samsung Gear S2 was launched in 2015 and with no updates for two long years, the users might have felt the device could have dropped off the Korean company’s radar. The firmware update version is R730AUCU3CQK1.
No Confirmation on the Rollout Schedule
The firmware version number is as above and is not a very large file. Its total size is only 6.79MB. The understanding is that the update is being rolled out even as you read this piece. It has also been informed that this update will result in improved battery life and better security for the Samsung Gear 2. However, what is not clear is if this is a universal firmware update across all markets or just in limited territories. On most occasions, companies work out a schedule and take a few weeks to complete the coverage of all markets around the world. There is as yet no confirmation on the schedule for this firmware update for the Samsung Gear 2.
Check for the Update Manually
If you own a Samsung Gear 2 smartwatch, the ideal thing for you to do is to open the Galaxy Wearable app on your connected device and access Watch software update. If the above version is already installed you are good to go. If not, you will have to tap Download and install it. This is what you would do whenever you wish to check and manually download software updates for your smartphones as well.
Update in the UI as well?
The report on this development claims there is a rumor that this firmware update version includes the Galaxy Watch Active 2 UI too. This is unconfirmed but if found to be true, then it would be an incredible development as far as the support the Samsung Gear 2 is receiving.
