Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2: FDA Approval for ECG Not Likely Before 2020

There were reports earlier that Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 will be launched in two versions. Information now available seems to indicate that there could be a third smartwatch in the works. We may know more about this at the Galaxy Unpacked event on August 7 in New York when the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will be announced.

Three and Not Two Variants of the Smartwatch

The South Korean conglomerate is expected to announce on August 7, the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 in three variants, the one which will be an LTE-enabled smartwatch, the other a Bluetooth only smartwatch and the third, an Under Armor branded Bluetooth model. The information of the third one has surfaced now. It has also been made clear that all these smartwatch variants will be sold in two dial sizes of 44 mm and 40 mm. The only other information available is that the Under Armor may be released with a sporty strap and the MapMyRun integrated into the device. Samsung is offering six months’ free service with this smartwatch.

This means there will be a whole lot of devices to be unveiled on that day; the models of Samsung Galaxy Note 10, and Note 10 Pro with a 5G version in each and then these six smartwatches. Buyers all over should be virtually rejoicing.

ECG Feature Will be on Hold

As reported earlier, the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 will be sold with the electrocardiogram (ECG) monitor included in it. However, the anticipated approval from the FDA is still to come through. The current expectation is the approval from the FDA may be received only by 2020 and then the feature will stand activated. This activation may be done through a software update at that time. The device to be sold now will have limited features in this area. It will have alerts when the wearer of the smartwatch experiences a high or low heart rate than the normal.

Another piece of information that is being shared about the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 models is that the LTE connectivity will be compatible only with Android and not iOS. Rest of the functions can deliver normal outputs with both the operating systems.

In terms of the color combinations, the stainless steel case will come in black and silver colors with black leather straps to go with them. The 40 mm dial size alone has a special gold case and pink strap combination. The metal case in the Bluetooth models will be in aluminum.
